In response to the question on why the migration from Tuscarawas Co Ohio to Indiana and
Kansas from Tuscarawas County Ohio in the late 19th centruy. As to the exaact reason(s),
we can only surmise, for we have no accurate record, save those people who do genealogy
and document the story in their private tomes. There were many large families in those
days and as the county began to fill up,there was less room for the trades of farming for
all family members, so they began to look westward. The folks who left Ohio for Kansas,
went because of the opportunities with the railroad and the booming cattle industry. Those
are only my guesses, but there is some validity in them form personal records I have read.
I am sorry I cannot be of further assistance...signed Fred Miller archives(a)tusc.kent.edu
