"PASSES AWAY AT AGE OF 64. JOHN HASTINGS OF ELMORE, WELL KNOWN FARMER AND STOCK MAN
DIES MONDAY NIGHT.
John HASTINGS of Elmore township, farmer and stock man passed away at his home northwest
of this city last Monday night his death being caused by a complication of diseases. He
had been in failing health for some time.
John HASTINGS was a son of William and Susan {DOLLARHIDE?} HASTINGS and was born in Elmore
township Aug. 7, 1860. He was past 64 years of age at the time of his death.
In 1881 he was united in marriage to Sarah COURTNEY. To this union one child was born,
Charles T., who survives.
The wife passed away in 1886 {1887} and in 1887 he was again married to Clara DUNLAP. To
this union five children were born, all of whom with the mother survive. These are
William of Indianapolis, Paris of Elmore township, Mrs. Ada SIMS of Bogard township, Mrs.
Nellie SIMS of Akron, Ohio and Mrs. Hattie MALONE of Elmore. Mr. HASTINGS also leaves one
sister, Mrs. Thomas KILLION, two half sisters, Mrs. Samuel SKOMP and Mrs. Robert BRATTON
and one half brother, Thomas SLIMP of Washington.
He was a member of the Christian church, having united with the old Christian church at
Elnora many years ago.
The funeral services were held from the Christian church at Elnora Wednesday afternoon at
two o'clock with Rev. W. S. Hasting of Spencer in charge. Burial was made at Walnut
Hill."
