Surname: Eager, Kirby
-------------------------
To anyone who can help,
My father, Sherman Eager was born in Knox County on the west bank of the
White River in Jan 1888. His father operated the ferry which ran crossed
the White River from at Maysville, in Daviess County, across the river
to Knox County. When my father was born, to see the new baby, a sister-in-law
of my grandmother, Leota Kirby Eager b. 1862, crossed the White River on
the ferry to Knox County to see the new baby. This sister-in-law was the
wife of Leota's brother, John Kirby. [John b.c. 1857]
Grandfather, M.F. Eager who operated the ferry ask his sister-in-law if
she was not afraid when she rode the ferry across the White River. To which
Mrs. Kirby replied that she was not afraid because she knew that the ferry
had wheels under it.
Now my question. John and his wife must have been living in Daviess County
at the time. But I have never been able to find anything about this couple.
The only census record that I have found on John Kirby was the 1860 Daviess
County census when John was a boy and a member of his father's household.
Does anyone know anything about John Kirby, his wife, or if they have any
children about their children?
My father worked for his uncle Jim Kirby in Green County about 1900 and
some years later, and he remembers seeing his Uncle John, but knew nothing
else about him except that he was his mother's older brother.
If anyone can tell me about the John Kirby family, I would appreciate any
information. Thank you.
Ruth
