"HARVEY EVANS DEAD.
A PROMINENT MAN AND A PIONEER OF THE COUNTRY.
Last Friday morning Uncle Harvey EVANS died at his home north of Raglesville, of general
debility, aged 75 years. He had been ill for some time and his death was expected. Until
the last year he had remarkably good health for a man of his age, but a bout a year ago he
began to decline and the last few months has been very poorly.
Euclid Harvey EVANS was born in Ohio, February 4, 1828 and was of a family of three
children. When he was five years old his mother died and he went to live with his
grandfather, where he remained until he was eighteen years old. He learned the wagon
makers trade with George DESER, and followed his occupation for twenty years. He moved to
Indiana from Ohio, and after coming here he made several trips to Pennsylvania, driving
herds of cattle and sheep, which he sold to the eastern markets, making nice profits in
the deals. From stock buying he drifted into farming, and bought several tracts of land.
He owned nearly 500 acres of land besides he had considerable personal property.
He and Lucinda DUNLAP were married January 6, 1853. To this union were born four
children, two of whom are living. They are Ira P. and James L. EVANS.
Politically Mr. EVANS was a republican; a leading member in the Raglesville Masonic lodge;
and a man that lived an honest, upright life. He was president of the Old Settlers, and
his enthusiasm made it what it was, to a great extent.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. John Breden, assisted by Rev. J. T. Hobson in
the Raglesville U. B. church Saturday afternoon. The Masonic lodge had charge of the
funeral."
