"OBITUARY
Mrs. Mary HOGSHEAD, widow of David HOGSHEAD, died at her residence in this city last
Wednesday at eight minutes past noon, the cause of her death being old age and general
debility. Mrs. HOGSHEAD was born in Harrison county, KY., August 15, 1805, and was
therefore a little over eighty-four (74?) years old. She was married to Mr. David
HOGSHEAD about sixty years ago, and leaves three children, Mr. Hiram HOGSHEAD, Miss Lizzie
HOGSHEAD, and Mrs. Jane STAFFORD. Her husband died on the 13th of last June. Mrs.
HOGSHEAD possessed an estimable character, was a faithful Christian, and was held in high
esteem by all who knew her. The remains were interred in the old Presbyterian cemetery
Thursday afternoon.
(To the Editor.)
The deceased was the oldest member of the Presbyterian church in this place, and was
universally respected and beloved. During her long and painful sickness she manifested
much patience and resignation. The funeral was largely attended, and the pastor urged
this one thought: "The event which has called us together today - the death of a
Christian woman, who passed away in peace, relying upon Jesus Christ, in the assured hope
of eternal life - can any of us do better than to follow her example, and walk by faith in
Jesus Christ during this life on earth: It will make our lives better, purer, nobler,
while we live; It will make death peaceful and hopeful when we die."
