Helen C. Padgett dies November 1; Funeral Held Sun.
Helen C. Padgett, age 88, of Loogootee, died at 6:50 a.m. on Thursday,
November 1, 2001, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and David
Qualkenbush.
She was born on October 5, 1913, in Martin County. (A daughter of -- ). On
July 3, 1946, she married Hanly Adam Padgett and he preceded her in death on
September 26, 1985.
Mrs. Padgett retired from Uniroyal, in Washington, IN and had previously
worked at Crane during World War II. She was a member of Mt. Zion Wesleyan
Church, Friendly Club and Senior Citizens Club of Daviess County, Sheriff's
Association and RSVP Club of Washington. She was an avid traveler and very
active in Relay for Life.
Survivors include four daughters, Vicki Qualkenbush, and Janet Sue Hembree,
both of Loogootee, and Ruth Meyer and Sandy Bleemel, both of Jasper; three
sons, Philip, Robert and Harold Street, all of Loogootee; 27 grandchildren;
41 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
Two brothers, Alonzo and Edward Street, and two sisters, Florence Opel and
Verne Wagoner, have also preceded her in death.
A funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 4, in the Mt.
Zion Wesleyan Church, in Rutherford Township. Burial was made in South
Martin Cemetery, near Loogootee. The Becher-Kluesner North Chapel, in
Jasper, was in charge of the final arrangements.
The family suggested that memorial contributions may be made to the American
Cancer Society.
