Obituary, The Washington Democrat, Washington, Indiana, Monday, August 4, 1924:
"THOMAS WILSON IS FATALLY INJURED BY FALLING LIMB.
SKULL CRUSHED WHEN LIMB SIX INCHES IN DIAMETER STRIKES HIM ON THE HEAD.
Thomas Wilson, aged 62 years, a widely known farmer of the northeastern part of the
county, was fatally injured about 6:30 o'clock Sunday night at the home of his nephew,
Elmer Hardy, north east of the new Bethel church in Bogard township, when a dead limb,
about six inches in diameter at the largest place, fell from an elm tree and struck him on
the head.
Mr. Wilson was on his way to church and had stopped to talk with his nephew and family.
He and several others were standing under the elm tree when the limb broke and came
crashing to the ground. All tried to get beyond danger but the falling limb struck Mr.
Wilson on the head. He was unconscious when picked up.
Mr. Wilson was brought to the Daviess county hospital about 10 o'clock where an
emergency operation had been planned as the only means of saving his life. He died 25
minutes after reaching the hospital. Dr. Rang and Dr. Porter, of Elnora attended to his
injuries. The body was removed to the Keller & Williams mortuary where it was
prepared for burial.
Mr. Wilson was born in Washington and lived all of his life in Daviess county. Surviving
him are the widow, Mrs. Mary J. Wilson and five children, Miss Ethel and Thomas Wilson,
both living at home, Frank Wilson and Earl Wilson, of Barr township and Mrs. Alma Fisher,
of Cornettsville.
The funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at New
Bethel."
