Obituary, The Odon Journal, Odon, Indiana, Saturday, February 22, 1896, page 2:
"DEATH TAKES A WELL KNOWN CITIZEN.
We were grieved to hear of the death of Uncle Joe Myers Saturday night Feb. 15, 1896 at
his residence south of Raglesville. He was born in Stark Co., Ohio January 11, 1820. He
was first married to Elewes {Elener?} W. Booth September 16, 1841. To this union were
born five children three of whom are still living. Mrs. Myers died March 17, 1857. On
October 10, 1858 he was again married to Libby {Sibby Elizabeth} Long, who survives him.
To this union were born thirteen children, nine of whom are living. The deceased united
with the M. E. Church in 1858 of which he lived a faithful member until death.
He leaves a wife, twelve children and many friends to mourn his departure.
"Uncle" Joe was prepared to hear the summons - "Child, come home. Blessed
are the dead which die in the Lord, they rest from their labors and their works do follow
them."
His funeral occurred Monday A. M. at 11 o'clock at the M. E. Church, conducted by the
pastor."
