"HENRY C. CLINTON DEAD. WIDELY KNOWN RESIDENT OF THIS COUNTY SUCCUMBS TO HEART

Henry C. Clinton, one of this county's most widely known and highly respected citizens
passed away at his home about four miles southwest of this city Tuesday morning about two
o'clock his death being caused by heart trouble.
Mr. Clinton had been enjoying good health up to the time of his death, in fact had been
busy about his farm the day preceding, had husked some corn and attended the many chores
about the place retiring in his usual good spirits Monday night.
His son Walter who slept just across the hall from him was aroused by him near two
o'clock in the morn being awakened by the sounds in his father's room and on going
to investigate found him very near death. Dr. DeMotte of Odon was hastily summoned but he
had passed away before medical skill could reach him.
Henry Clay Clinton was born in Daviess county in 1844 and was sixty-nine years of age at
the time of his death. He was familiarly known as "Major" Clinton, in fact was
called by that name by almost all who knew him.
In the year 1868 he was united in marriage to Martha Flinn of Lawrence county who lived
near Bedford and to this union was born eleven children, nine of whom survive the father.
Two daughters preceded him in death and these were Della, who passed away about thirteen
years ago, and Mrs. Mary Tisserand who lived in Evansville and died ten years ago.
Those living are J. M. Clinton of Phoenix, Arizona, Charles, Mrs. Belva Miles, Maude,
Walter and Flora of this county, Mrs. Cora Monts, Mrs. Stella Daugherty, who live near the
old home place, and Mrs. Sarah Daugherty of near Washington.
His wife who survives is an invalid, and is at present very ill.
Mr. Clinton had spent practically all his life in the county in which he was born and was
well known as a farmer and stock raiser.
The funeral services will be held at the residence Saturday with Rev. Flora of Bloomfield
in charge and burial was made in the cemetery at Walnut Hill.
Mr. Clinton was a member of the Church of God."
