Sarah A. Ash Passed Away
Widow of James Ash will be buried Friday Morning at St. Mary's Barr Township
Sarah Ann Ash, one of Van Buren Townships oldest residents passed away at
1:30 this morning at her home following a six years' illness. She was 88
years old. Senility caused her death.
She was the widow of James R. Ash, who died November 25, 1895. She was the
daughter of John S. Spalding and was born in Barr township, July 2, 1857.
She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Barr Township and also
a member of the St. Mary's Altar Society.
The body was to be returned to the Ash home at 3 o'clock this afternoon and
funeral services will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Barr Township
at 9:30 Friday morning with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Her living children are Miss Mary Elizabeth, Silas S. and Raphael A. Ash all
at home; Mrs. Cosmos Bullock, James Chris Ash and J. Vincent Ash all of
Loogootee rural route. Another son, Thomas K. Ash, died October 21, 1935.
She also leaves a brother, Thomas Spalding of Indianapolis, eight
grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Note: James R. Ash married Sarah A. Spalding 1 Oct 1878 at St. Mary's.

and was buried at St. Mary's Cemetery. Parents: John S. Spalding &
___Maddox. John S. Spalding married Catherine Maddox 28 November 1854 at St.
Mary's.
