Merchant at Cumback Died this Morning
Bert McCafferty fifty years old and one of the best known men in Daviess County died at
his home at Cumback this morning after a short illness. His death was caused by a
complication of disease.
Mr McCafferty owned a general store at Cumback. For the last year his health had been
poor, but not until eight or ten days ago was he forced to take to his bed.
Bert McCafferty was born in Daviess county in 1859. and had lived in Veale and Harrison
township almost all ihs life. He was a farmer at one time., the owner of the general store

Cumback Merchant Died this Morning
"Bert" McCafferty well known man succumbs to illness.
Allen Green McCafferty, a merchant at Cumback for a great many years died at 3:30
o'clock Tuesday morning. He had been in feeble health for some time but was not
confined to his bed until one day last week. The funeral services will be held at 11
o'clock thursday morning and the burial will be in the adjoining burial ground.
McCafferty was a son of the late Thomas McCafferty and leaves a wife and one daughter his
mother five sisters and three brothers. He was a little over fifty one years old and was a
nephew of Mrs John Russell of East Eleventh street in this city., His mother, Mrs Riller
McCafferty lives at Winslow, in Pike county. Through reason of having been in business at
Cumback for a long term of years Mr. McCafferty was well known in that section of the
county. To most of his friends he was known as Bert McCafferty.

The widow was Temperance (Boring) McCafferty, daughter of John Boring and Maria Horrall.
Riller McCafferty is mother Lucinda Arilla (Barber) McCafferty, daughter of Allen Barber
and Lucinda Lett.
Mrs. John Russell is Laura Ann McCafferty, sister of Thomas M. McCafferty and child of
Green McCafferty and Letitia Gregory.
Question re burial location? I find a Union cemetery in Washington Twp. and there is East
Union in Harrison Twp. (where the grandparents of Allen G. had a connection) but I
don't find Union Cumberland or Cumberland? Is there a different name? Thanks for any
clarification?
