"WM. SENEFF DEAD. PIONEER PASSES AWAY AT FRENCH LICK.
Wm. SENEFF, a highly respected citizen formerly of this community and a pioneer in the
county passed away last Tuesday night at the home of his son, Dr. Jno. H. SENEFF at French
Lick. His death was due to general debility and he had been in failing health for some
time.
Wm. SENEFF was born in Pennsylvania, Dec. 20, 1831. While yet a boy his parents moved to
Ohio where they lived until he became a young man. He was united in marriage to Anna
FISHER and to this union thirteen children were born ten of whom survive. These are: Dr.
John H. SENEFF of French Lick, D. W. SENEFF of Ohio, George E. SENEFF of Odon, Mrs. Sarah
RESLER of Washington, Ind., Mrs. Cordelia RIDER of Washington, Mrs. Nellie MARKS and Mrs.
Lyda CLARK of Los Angeles, California, Mrs. Aldah O'BRIEN of Trivola, Illinois, Mrs.
Myrtle HARTMAN of Danforth Ill., and Mrs. Ida SHUEY of Charleston, Ill.
Mr. and Mrs. SENEFF moved to Daviess county in 1861 and lived for many years within a few
miles of this city. He was a farmer by occupation and was widely known as a horseman.
About twenty years ago the wife passed into the great beyond and sixteen years ago he was
married to Mrs. Nancy STEELE. Mr. SENEFF lived at Elnora for a number of years and it was
at that place that the wife met death by a terrible accident about two years ago, being
burned to death.
Since the death of his second wife, Mr. SENEFF has made his home with his son at French
Lick and it was there that he passed away.
The funeral services were held at French Lick yesterday and he was laid to rest in the
cemetery at that place by the side of his first companion.
He was a member of the United Brethren church."
