I see some familiar names scrolling by on the list. My connection to
Daviess Co. IN are chiefly through Raglesville, Odon, and Elnora. My 2x
GGF Peter Ragle Sr. moved to Raglesville in 1835 from Orange Co. and
half of his family of 14 children were born there on the Ragle farm just
west of Raglesville center. His brother John Ragle also moved to the
area at the same time, and was the first postmaster in July, 1849. Aside
from the family surname, I am researching Richardson, Toon, Keck, Stoy,
Winklepleck, Woodruff, Trueblood, Gruver, and Carpenter.
I know from old correspondence that Peter Ragle Jr. ran a hotel
(boarding house?) in Elnora, and would like to know more. I also know
that he "lost" his farm somewhere around 1880. This farm was east of
Raglesville, near the Kecksville -> Loogootee road. I would be curious
to learn more.
I have family connections to Woodruff and Trueblood both in Indiana and
in eastern Kansas. It seems likely that there is a close connection, and
I would like to learn more. My GGF Alonzo (son of Peter Sr.) moved to
Kansas in 1882.
Thanks to one and all...
John L. Ragle
