Suicide
Claud Booker of Plainville Takes Own Life
Claude Booker, about eighteen years of age and a son of Alonzo Booker, a prominent farmer
living south of Plainville committed suicide yesterday afternoon in a peculiar and
eccentric manner. He had been about the place in the forenoon but did not come in for
dinner and his father came down to Plainville looking for him. His uncle took up the
search and upon going out into a nearby woods was horrified to find the boy's lifeless
body hanging in a tree some distance from the ground cold in death, while underneath an
empty 1 1/2 ounce bottle from which the strong fumes of carbolic acid still exuded, told
the manner of his destruction. The young man had climbed up unto the tree probably about
noon or directly after and had wired himself securely to the limbs and had then taken the
fiery liquid that caused his death. he had been dead probably 2 or 3 hours when found. The
cornoner was summoned from Washington in the afternoon and the inquest was held about
6:30. The boy had been so!
mewhat despondent through out the summer but no one thought of him committing the rash
deed. As we go to press we are unable to give the funeral and burial arrangements.
note: he is buried in the West Plainville Cem., Plainville, Ind. with his parents and
siblings
