Carolyn. Sorry that didn't help, but try this on for size. As you saw in 1880
Michael was born in Ohio, about 1866, and was living with a Joseph Oker, age 28. In the
1870 census for Ohio, Hamilton County, Harrison township, page 36, there was a family
headed by Mike Weible, 29, works as a mason, born in France, and included Lizzie, 28,
keeps house, born in Baden (Germany) and Mike Jr, 3, Ohio. By luck on page 45 of the same
census there was an individual by the name of Joseph Ocher, 16, a laborer, born in Ohio.
Remember most of the enumerators spelled phonetically any name they were not familiar
with. So Ocher and Oker are probably the same. The town of Harrison stradles the border
between Ind and Ohio. Hope this helps. Don
