Neck Broken When Car Overturns Mrs. Ethel Farren Killed Tuesday
Tragedy Occurs on Odon-Elnora Raod When Car Hits Loose Gravel.
Odon Woman Lives But a Few Minutes After Crash. Other Occupants Slightly Injured.
Mrs. Ethel Farren, wife of Alva Farren of this city, was almost instantly killed last
Tuesday morning when the Ford touring car which she was driving skidded in loose gravel on
the Elnore-Odon road west of town and crashed into a ditch at the roadside. Mrs.
Farren's neck was broken and she suffered a bruise across the forehead. At the time of
the accident Mrs Farren was on
her way to Elnora and was accompanied by her daugther Helen, two years old and Miss Lillie
Neiswanger. Miss Neiswanger suffered considerably from the shock and minor injuries but
the daughters escaped uninjured. The accident occured near the home of Charles Hasting and
just after crossing a small culvert or bridge at that place. It is thought that the car
struck loose gravel causing it to get out of control. The car turned completely over and
came to rest against a roadside fence. The top was completely wrecked, a wheel broken and
the body crushed. Mrs. Hasting heard the crash from her home and run to give aid. Two
physicicans were summoned and an ambulance was called from this city but the injured woman
lived but a few minutes. The body was brought to the home in this city. Mrs Farren was
born near Decatur, Ill. October 19, 1896 and was past thirty-one years of age at time of
her death. She was the daughter of Charles Walkuist and came to Odon in 1916. In December
of the sa!
me year she was united in marriage to Alva Farren and from this union three children with
the surviving husband and faher survive.
These are Geneva, Maxine, and Helen. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. Lillian Mayberry of
Decatur, Illinois. Mrs Farren was a member of the First Christian Church of this city and
had many friends throughout the community.
Funeral services were held at the First Christian church Thursday afernoon at two
o'clock with Rev. C. H. Buchanan in charge. Burial was made at Walnut
Hill.
