Sister Rose Angele Spalding died at 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 8, 2006.
The former Monica Elizabeth Spalding was born in Loogootee, Indiana on January
21, 1913 to James Patrick and Rose Emma (Hopkins) Spalding.
Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Providence on December 29,
1933, professed First Vows on January 23, 1936, and Final Vows on August 15,
1941. Sister was an educator and administrator in schools staffed by the
Sisters of Providence in Illinois, Indiana and the District of Columbia.
Within sister's 72 years as a Sister of Providence, 50 years were spent as a
teacher and principal. In Indianapolis, from 1985-1991, Sister ministered as
Clerical Assistant for St. Gabriel Province Center. In 1997 Sister returned to
St. Mary-of-the-Woods, in St. Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana for her ministry of
prayer.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Mildred Spalding of Beech Grove.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Marguerite Spalding Lundergan and
brothers, Reverend Dennis P. Spalding, Reverend William Edwin Spalding and
James Francis Spalding.
Wake will be held Wednesday, January 11, 2006 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in
the Church of the Immaculate Conception, St. Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana with
a Wake Service at 4:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated
on Thursday, january 12, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. in the church with Reverend Daniel
R. hopcus presiding. Burial will be in the Cemetery of the Sisters of
Providence at St. Mary-of-the-Woods.
The Callahan Funeral Home in Terre Haute is assisting with arrangements. ##
