This message is for Marilyn Gappa--
In your recent e-mail regarding Charles Summers, you included this
information about one of his sons, Thomas Summers.
-Thomas D. b. abt 1809 KY, d. Feb 1850 Daviess Co, IN; m. 2 Sept 1836 Daviess
Co, IN, Susanna Melvina O'Brien b. 27 Jan 1797 KY, d. 18 Sept 1859 Mt.
Pleasant, Martin Co, IN. Buried St. Rose Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant, Martin Co, IN.
I am descended from Susan O'Brien Summers and Andrew White (Susan's second
husband). It is my understanding that Susan Melvina O'Brien was born in Kentucky
in 1820. As to the date of her death, I do not believe that anyone has even
pinpointed it. We know that she was alive in the Daviess County area in
1891-1892 when the U.S. government sent her a widow's pension check resulting from
Andrew White's Civil War service and disability. Andrew White died in 1872 and
Susan was definitely alive at that time. And, she and her two sons, Barney and
Andrew, are listed in the 1880 census as living in Cannelburg. At this time
(1880) she was called Lavina White.
I am curious as to where you obtained your information about Susan. Most of
us researching her life would be very happy to at last know the date of her
death and where she is buried.
If you have any additional knowledge or information, I would be very happy to
receive it.
Sincerely--
Carol Zell
