So I'm taking my first genealogy field trip to Daviess Co. this summer. :) (My fun little phrase for a mini-vacation to do some research and see places my family lived.) I have TONS of family members from Daviess Co and the surrounding areas. So, what I'm wondering is.... what places would you be sure to hit?
I'm thinking library, historical society, cemetaries of relevance.... Anywhere else to hit? I'd like to hear from anyone who has something to share but someone familiar with Daviess Co would be awesome! :)

Hi Lisa,
Yep I meant that Thomas was the 2nd oldest surviving son.
And yes, without Thomas there are 13 children of Patrick with Elizabeth Raney and 1 with Catherine Riley
There is a daughter Elizabeth born 1856 (I don't have the date)married Samuel Mangus Nov 23, 1880 died in Lincoln, Illinois (I do not have the date) 2 children: Lyman and Maude.
For Henry I have b. 1862 d. January 27, 1869
Julian b. May 02, 1870 d. ? in the 1870 census he is one month old. He does not appear in the 1880 census
Gee whiz I still have a lot of holes to fill in in my dates!!

Thanks, I have been trying to find that marriage record too re your Comment. I see many have a birthdate of Dec 28, 1788 for William, that would give him the exact birthdate of youngest son of William and Ann Allender, Mifflin Co., PA (1790 census)in book by White on the Sniggens family in PA. I have that family too on site Allenders of Venango County. Not so many there, but its a generation earlier, and they did seem inclined to travel. I have to go back to the library and check the Sniggens book, but I am sure the author, White, had nothing but the birth date on the youngest son.

Thank you Elizabeth and Lisa for posting!
I just returned from my Raney family Easter Reunion near Austin.
My ancestors were ggg grand Jeremiah Raney > gg grand James Virgil Raney buried St. Rose, Martin Co, IN > great grand John Allen Raney buried in St. Martin's Whitfield, IN > grandpa Homer Thomas Raney Sr buried in KCMO > mom was Dorothy Philomena (Raney) Sause also buried in KCMO. Mom had five siblings who moved to Houston starting in the 1940's so I spent Easter weekend with 80 cousins! (19 first cousins, their spouses, children, grandchildren)

One update. The image of the Allender - Stealey marriage record is available at the West Virginia Archives and History Database:

It is a transcription ledger of vital records for the state.

Credit goes to Connie Shotts. She gave me that information 3 years ago and I am slow in absorbing. The Monongolia court records come from compilations by Melba Pender Zinn. Her books are still available at Amazon and Barnes and Noble. Connie also had transcriptions from the West Virginia archives on the details - which is the original source for Melba's compilations.

Hi Misty,
Here's some census info and marriage records about your Ash family. It appears that William Ash might be the name of Francis' father if Francis/Frank was born in Daviess County, IN. I am not a part of this line but hope some of this information will help your search. Please let me know if you have other lookups.

Francis is living with older brother, Raphael, and his family. Next door is James Ash, 26, and possibly another brother, wife Susan, and child. If he has at least 2 brothers, I would guess that William Ash was their father from the 1830 census in Daviess Co., IN. William had 4 sons and 1 daughter in that census. Charles Ash had a daughter and Edward Ash had only 2 sons.
