I am the coordinator for the Daviess County, USGenWeb site. I wanted to let everyone know that the site has recently undergone some major changes.
All the original content still exists however any bookmarks you might have saved may no longer be valid. In order to make this transition as painless as possible I would be more than happy to send you new links for any bookmarks you might have saved in the past. Please e-mail rchamb4402(a)aol.com , tell me what the old bookmark was and I will send you the new link.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Daviess County USGenWeb site, it is a completely free website filled with information and resource tools to aid in your Daviess County research. The website is http://ingenweb.org/indaviess/
I would like to invite everyone to stop by and take a look at the new site. Please feel free to send me any comments or suggestions you might have. Remember this is your site; I am merely its caretaker.
I would also like to send a very big thank you to all that have contributed to the site. It is because of you that we now have posted over 450 obituaries and biographies, added a new "featured cemeteries" section and added some wonderful old photos to the School and Families sections.
I did try to post this to the Daviess list over a week ago, so if by chance the original email does go through I apologize now for the duplication.

I have a book of Daviess County Plat maps compiled by Gregory A. Boyd JD, which contains land purchases made through the Federal Government's General Land Office. These are generally referred to as Land Patent Maps. This book is broken up by townships. Most of the land purchases in my book were made between the years 1820 through 1860.
These land purchases are available online free at the Bureau of Land Management website, but my book has the advantage of showing exactly where the parcel is located in the county, who the original neighbors were and any cemeteries and waterways that may be nearby.
If you are looking for a specific land transaction that is outside of the Land Patents Act, your best bet would be to contact Daviess County directly, and ask them if they could do a search - when the land was bought or sold and then see if they have a plat map of that time era.

Thanks Karen,
I was thinking that the Mary Scott who married George Goslin might be the daughter of John Scott and Mary Hannah (the Mary Scott that was living with John & Harriet Edwards in 1880). She is about the right age, from the same area, and buried in the same cemetery as the others. I would definitely like to see if this is true or not.
Thank you again.
Brittany

I found some info on George Goslin:
1880 Harrison Twp., Daviess Co., Indiana
Enumeration District:
Sheet Number: 491A
Enumeration Date: June 1880
Goslin, James - age 27, farmer, born in KY. Parents born in KY
" Elizabeth - mother, age 54, keeping house, born in KY. Parents born in KY
" George - brother, age 17, born in IN. Parents born in KY
On page 491B there is a John and Harriet Edwards family with their children - Samuel H., Mary A. (age 15), Sarah, Albert C.,
Fannie S., Perry O., & mother-in-law Mary Scott. This could be the Mary A. Edwards you mentioned who married a George Goslin.
*******************************
1900 Harrison Twp., Daviess Co., Indiana
Enumeration District: 6
Sheet Number: B
Enumeration Date: June 23, 1900
Line: 97
Dwelling/Family: 198/199
Goslin, George - born November 1864, age 36, married 13 yrs., born in IN. Parents born in IN. Occupation farmer.
" Mary - wife, born November 1866, age 34, married 13 yrs., born in IN. Father born in IN. Mother born in OH
" Alta M. - son, born July 1889, age 11, born in IN
" Velva M. - daughter, born May 1894, age 6, born in IN
" Leona B. - daughter, born March 1896, age 4, born in IN
" Alma M. - son, born February 1898, age 2, born in IN
" (Infant) - son, born April 1900, age 2mo., born in IN
Based on the number of years married stated by George and Mary, that would put it at about 1887. I believe that George Goslin did marry Mary A. Edwards in Daviess Co., Indiana on Sept 6, 1887 (Bk. 6, pg. 364)
In 1910 George & Mary Goslin are still living in Harrison Twp., Daviess Co., IN with their children Alta, Velva,, Leona & Alma.
In 1930 George & Mary are living in Washington Twp., Daviess Co., Indiana. No children are left in the household.
******************************************
In 1870 Reeve Twp., Daviess Co., Indiana George "Gosling" is listed with his mother Elizabeth and siblings Matthew G., Eli H., James E. & James S.
I hope this helps.............................Karen
