Information on Robert Shircliff family from "A History of Knox and
Daviess Counties, Indiana" by Goodspeed Publishing, Chicago 1886
Robert A. Shircliff is a son of Thomas and Catherine (Cissel) Shircliff.
The parents were natives of Kentucky, the father born in 1803, and the
mother
in 1806. The father was a farmer, and owned 420 acres of land. He died in
1857, and the mother in 1863. Robert was born in Daviess County, Indiana, in
1832, and had only the advantages of the old-time subscription schools, but
improved every oppurtunity in order to acquire a better education. He taught
school two terms and received 87 1/2 cents per day. Since that time he has
given his attention to farming. In 1855, he purchased 100 acres of land,
which
by industry he has increased to 350 acres. In 1857, he wedded Mary E.
Summers, born in 1836, daughter of Benjamin and Catherine (Nalley) Summers.
To
Mr. and Mrs. Shircliff eleven children were born: Catherine A., Sarah A.,
Thomas K., Benjamin, Joseph R., Vincent, Mary, Robert, John ,Basil, and
Phillip.
the family are Catholics. Mr. Shircliff is a Democrat and for two years
during the war served as justice of the peace.

Sorry, everyone. I thought I would try this new AOL birthday list program
so as not to forget my friends and family's birthdays...never thinking it
would gather everyone/every site I have ever corresponded with.
I apologize for this inconvenience. I have been a lister for a very long
time and it is not my intention to ever spam anyone.

I see you have some ancestry in the Queen family.
I have been trying to make a Queen connection. Cora W Queen married a Thomas Henderson and I can't get any further back. My aunt was named Minerva Queen Henderson for her grandmother. Cora Queen's parents may have been Thomas Augustine Queen (born about 1840) and her mother Rhoda Hannah Reynolds( born 22 Mar 1840)
Does any of this match any info you may have? Can you verify or add anything/
Thanks,

Fred, I am sorry to say both of them are deceased. However, I am sure
someone on here lives close to the area and may be able to direct you. Try
Ancestry.com, look for the Shoals library online and check the web site for the
Church of Later Day saints, genealogy section, online. Sue

That's a shame. Between Joe and Natalie the Genealogy Society in both
counties should be dedicating a plaque to them. Perhaps Pamela Nolan can get them
to do something. I will drop her a note. Sue

Hi Michele, that is correct. Without Natalie's records, Daviess Co would
have practically nothing for us to access. The courthouse is a valuable
source, but it's not enough. We are especially grateful to Natalie for her
work
(and Herman Joe McAtee and various other old timers) on the compilation of
the
various church records in both counties. Of course, there are both a
genealogy society and a historical society, but I don't read much about
them, only
Martin Co (in the Loogootee Tribune).
Incidentally, I have tried to get the Tribune to add their weekly
obituaries
to the online Obituary Central or give them to me to put on the lists, but
I
have never had the courtesy of a reply to any of my communications with
either Harold Greene or his successor, Mr. Hembree.

I wonder how many people realize that all Daviess Co. records are under

It's there. Two places. Indiana, Daviess, Genealogy along with other
collections from local historical societies and it is also cataloged under
her
surname as an author.

Natalie probably gave most of her records to the historical or genealogy
society, or to the Carnegie Library--perhaps some of the members know for sure.
I do know she was always so, so sorry that she drove all the way to Georgia
to entrust her Montgomery and Tewell records to Jim Tewell and he allegedly
plagarized her work in a book he was writing and never gave her credit. She
wasn't looking for fame--just give credit where credit is due. He had a lot
of health problems, I believe, and died a few years later. I don't know
what happened to her records after that, but I hope his family was smart enough
to keep them or has passed them to a genealogist who cares. Maybe someone on
the lists know more than I do.
