Hi all! I was wondering if some kind hearted soul out there could look up and possibly get the marriage records of 4 family members for me.
I am looking for Sarah or Sally Rudd (b. 1860) married ????? Carroll.
Also looking for her sister Louisa Rudd (b. 1851) married ????? Slater.
Then, I was also looking for the first marriages of Golden E. Lamb (b. 1894) and Jennie Pearl Chattin (b. 1899). They married each other the 2nd time (in 1925) and I have the marriage record for that. But when we were in Daviess County getting all this info, I didn't notice that they were on their 2nd marriage. So, I missed out on getting those records.
I'd like to know who they were married to first. According to their marriage record, Golden's first marriage ended in 1914, and Jennie Pearl's first marriage ended in 1922. And that is all I know about it.
Any help provided will be GREATLY appreciated!
Thank you so much,
Serena McBrayer

Washington Democrat, Washington, Indiana December 3, 1934
"AGED RESIDENT OF PLAINVILLE DIES SUDDNLY
Mrs. Ella Fettic, 75, Will Be Buried Tomorrow.
Mrs. Ella Fettic, 75, widow of the late John Fettic, died suddenly about 4 o'clock Sunday morning of a heart attack, at her home a quarter mile south of Plainville.
The aged woman lived with Miss Rosemary Smith, whom she had kept the past 15 years, and the two were sleeping in the same room. About 4 o'clock Miss Smith heard a noise from Mrs. Fettic's bed, and upon investigation found her gasping for breath and unable to tlk. Miss Smith hurried to the home of James Noble, nearby, to get help, and upon returning to the home found Mrs. Fettic had died while she was gone.
Coroner Elwood Williams today held an inquest into her death, and said heart disease was the cause of her sudden passing.
The deceased was born on September 24, 1859, being a daughrer of Mr. and Mrs. William Rudd. She spent her entire life in and around Plainville, and was widely known in that community. Her husband died several years ago.
Although Mrs. Fettic had been in ill health for the past five years, she had not been confined to her bed, and had not complained recently of feeling worse.
Surviving children of Mrs. Fettic are Charles of English, Ind., mrs. Lullu Clinton of Plainville, Mrs. Myrtle Noble of Plaiinville, Mrs. Stella Simmons of Plainville, Mrs. Lola Cox of Portland, Ore., Mrs. Dona Young of Indianapolis, and Oral Fettic of Washington. Two sisters and one brother also survive. They are Mrs. Sallie Corrall of Royalton, IL, Miss Lou Rudd, of Plainville, and John Rudd of Plainville, four other children of Mrs. Fettic are deceased.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Plainville Methodist Church, with Rev. Geo. G. Peel officiating, end interment following in Plainville cemetery. Ives Poindexter will have charge of the funeral."

I am looking for further information on James Houston who resided in Daviess County in the 1840s, 1850s and 1860s. The 1850 census lists him as a "magistrate" and I have found reference to him as a Justice of the Peace performing marriages. I believe he may have been the illegitimate son of Mary/Polly (Staley) Allender. I know that Mary/Polly Staley had an son born in Monongalia County Virginia (now West Virginia) about 1800 based on court records. I know that she and her husband William Allender were living in Daviess County IN from at least 1830 on, and in a deposition from 1836 she identifies a James Houston as her son. Census records show that James Houston lived near an Allender family in 1850 and I am trying to determine if this James Houston is indeed Mary/Polly (Staley) Allender's son. It appears that this James Houston who was a JP was married at least three times in Daviess County: to Matilda Eubanks 10 Oct 1831, to Mrs. Ann Suiter 20 Dec 1841 and to Mrs. Pr!
iscilla Davis 18 Mar 1846 who appears with him in the 1850 census.
I would appreciate having any information that someone could share on the Allenders, James Houston or any of his wives.
Thanks,
Connie Shotts

In 1841, Sally Vaughn married William Brazzle. Her first marriage was to Beverly Vaughn in Tennessee about 1819. Sally and Beverly were the parents of at least 3 sons and 1 daughter. William Brazzle died in 1851 and we can find nothing further on Sally. Did she die in Daviess Co, Ind? Is anyone else researching this family? Would love to locate the children of the Vaughn marriage.

James SR had more than one marriage. His wife Nancy died June 5, 1870. James Sr married Sarah Jane Black, date unknown. James Jr's mother was Nancy. I am not sure if James Sr had more wives than Nancy and Sarah. I am actually working on the Black side of the tree.
I printed out what you sent. I appreciate the 1930 census. I was working with Ancestry.com and they showed no James Turnbaugh on the 1930 census.
I will write to Davies county. Thank you again for responding and for all your help. I have books on death records for Washington County Indiana. If I can be of any help please let me know.

I think you will want to order the Daviess marriage record, to find his parents' names. I find something interesting, though.
Your younger Washington Co. James - why do you think his mother is Nancy? Nancy is not in the household in 1860 or 1870, and there is a large gap in children born, from Samuel about 1856 to Ida about 1863. Oh my mistake - there is a second Nancy wife!!
James M Turnbaugh Nancy Jane Barksdale 25 Apr 1861 Harrison County
Good luck!

I suppose you have seen this record, then:
Name: James Turnbaugh
Spouse Name: Laura Kargrove
Marriage Date: 18 Oct 1888
Marriage County: Daviess

Source Title 2: Index to Marriage Record 1850 - 1920 Inclusive Vol
Source Title 3: W. P. A. Original Record Located: County Clerk's O

It sounds to me that you could request a copy of this record, or email them and ask them if they can verifiy that his parents are the ones you are looking for. (Try Google to find an email or mailing address.)
I think this is him in the 1930 census:
Name: James Turnbaugh

Age: 65
Estimated birth year: abt 1865
Birthplace: Indiana
Relation to Head of House: Head

James Turnbaugh 65

Altenatively, you can write and ask for a death record for after 1930.

Thank you for your reply. I am not sure if he was born in Daviess county or not. I know he married Laura Kargrove in Daviess county on October 18, 1888. They had 9 children. I have him on the 1900, 1910 and 1920 census. Could not find him on the 1930. The birthdate of January 1866 fits with the James in my family
The James Turnbaugh I am looking for was born in Washington County Indiana. I know several of his siblings left Washington county for other surrounding counties.
I really need to find out who the parents of this James are so that I can determine if he is my James Turnbaugh. I really don't want to track down all the children only to find that I have the wrong James.
Anything you may know would be a great help. Thank you for replying

I'm interested in researching my family during the 1870s time period in Daviess County.
Are there microfilmed newspapers from this time period?
Does anyone know what days and hours the Carnegie Public Library is open?
Thanks!
