You're probably right about this Elizabeth Magill Walker being a daughter (or neice) to Thomas Walker/Elizabeth Magill, especially when other Walker and Magill siblings intermarried (I have John Walker-son of John Walker and Mary Anderson and brother to Thomas- married to Rebecca Magill in TN 1788; I also have Thomas's daughter, Susan Walker, married to Robert Magill in 1801.)
As for Thomas Walker Jr. and Polly Gwinn, I don't have any concrete evidence for their birth, marriage, or migration dates, but not for lack of trying. Speculation and tradition say that Thomas Walker Jr. was born about 1791 in Blount Co, TN and that he married Polly Gwinn between 1810 and 1814 probably in TN. I base this on the fact that their first son, Isham Gwinn Walker, was born 1815 in TN. I can deduce that they migrated to Indiana between 1815 and 1819 because their son Isham was born 1815 in TN and their son Thomas Elmore Walker was born 1819 in IN (see 1850 census for Martin Co., IN). There are 4 Thomas Walkers in Indiana during the 1830 census. The one in Orange County best matches the likely family structure of Thomas WalkerJr./Polly Gwinn. Polly Gwinn died in 1832/33 in IN during child birth. Her 11th and last child was my ggg grandfather, Anderson Walker. Thomas Walker Jr. did remarry however to Mrs. Jane Crim in 1837 in Martin Co., IN. Three of his children mar!
ried into the Butler family of Martin Co., IN. My ggg grandfather, Anderson Walker, married Margaret Butler and migrated to Idaho with his children, grandchildren and several neices/nephews and friends in 1881.
This is a lot of detail that may or may not be useful to you. Toss what you don't need. Where do you fit into this family and what are you searching for now?

This is great, I had given up on ever hearing from anyone on my 1999 posting on this subject. See my response to the other posting. Your mention of KY as the birth place of Thomas Walker reminded me that the 1860 Census listed the birth place of my Elizabeth as KY, while all the other census reports show TN.
Could you point me toward the source of the statement "I do know that this family lived in Daviess Co., IN for a few years before moving to Clay Co. IN." This appears to be be more circumstantial evidence of a link between my Elizabeth and the Thomas Walker family.

It is great to hear from someone on this matter. It would seem that my Elizabeth Magill Walker would more likely be a child of Thomas Walker Sr and Elizabeth Magill. She was a widow, with the infant son Josiah Jr, very shortly after marrying Josiah Wallace in 1818, . She later married William Sparks in 1829 and was again a widow by 1850. The 1850 Iowa Census shows widow Elizabeth Sparks 51, b. Tennessee, in the household of Josiah Wallace 29, b.Indiana. She is also shown in Josiah's household in 1860 and 1870. Her middle name, Magill, suggests strongly that she is the daughter of a Walker with a tie to the Magill family and her date of birth matches well with a later child of Walker parents born in the 1760s.
Do you have any more details about Thomas Walker Jr and Polly Gwinn and their move from TN to IN?

Am looking for decendents of Jesse Hancock b.1860, m. Serelda Christison. His parents, Wm.Hancock and Lousia Robinson, died when he was a child and he met Serelda while being indentured. Both ran away from this terrible situation and he worked for a man named Prosser in Daviess Co. They married, and later moved to West Terre Haute, IN then Streator, IL. We believe her parents were James and Cleopatra Christison from KY.
Hoping someone can connect with this.

I have a Thomas Walker in our family that we can't connect. History of Clay Co., IN says Thomas was born in 1815 in Hardin Co., KY, he and his mother came to Indiana with his Uncle and Grandfather. Said he lost his father. I do know that this family lived in Daviess Co., In for a few years before moving to Clay Co. IN. We believe his Uncle to be Nathan Davis Walker and his Grandfather to be Daniel Walker who was born in VA avt 1754. Don't know if there is a connection or not, just thought I would throw this out.

I know I'm replying to a very old message, but do so in hopes of connecting with anyone working on family history for Thomas Walker Sr. (b.abt 1765 in TN)and Elizabeth Magill. My records contain many of the same names listed previously but in different relations. My records say that Thomas Walker Sr.'s parents were John Walker and Mary Anderson from VA and TN. Thomas and Elizabeth's son Thomas Jr. married Polly Gwinn and moved from TN to IN between 1812 and 1820. I wonder if Thomas Sr. and/or Elizabeth went with them? I also wonder if Thomas Sr. died and Elizabeth then remarried to your Josiah Wallace in Davies Co., IN in 1818? It's a theory. Anybody have more info to support or refute this theory?

Oscar Perry Hackler was my wife's Great-Uncle; and a man of many talents.Among them was family historian for the descendants of William and Catherine [Reynolds] Myers of Bogard Township in Daviess County. He documented the participants and activties of the annual Myers Reunions for almost thirty years beginning in 1936. He spent his last few years at the Indiana Masonic Home in Franklin, Indiana.
Upon his death in 1963, the following tribute was published in the Indianapolis News:
Church Home Grieves at Magician's Death
Oscar P. Hackler followed the philosophy that life's greatest joys come from making others happy. Little wonder that he was one of the most popular residents at the Indiana Masonic Home at Franklin.
Hackler, who was described by a mutual friend as being "one of the great chaps of the home," died May 21,1963 at 84. He left behind a monument of gratitude and thanks in the hearts of all his fellow residents there.
Hackler was a registered magician who for years thrilled audiences in many cities throughout the Midwest. Indicative of the esteem in which fellow-members of that entertainment field held him, he was honored by the National Associations at its 1961 convention in Michigan.
When he came to the home in January 1959, he did not rest on his laurels as an entertainer. With the unselfish attitude that was characteristic of him, he put those talents to good use, probably their best use - cheering others
"He spent all his time making those of the home and hospital happy," said Charles A. Clark, former auditor of The News, who, with Mrs. Clark, lives at the home.
Hackler, however, did not limit his entertainment to that institution. He also gave programs at various Masonic Lodges and Eastern Star chapters. His good turns for the home and its patients were not confined to those magic entertainments. He also served as host and guide for the institution's nursing home.
It is easy to understand why his death cast a pall over residents at the home, for they knew they had lost a real friend whose niche probably never could be filled."The man at the funeral home told me that everyone at the home seemed to be broken-hearted," Clark added.
Born in Epsom, Daviess County in 1879 he had a varied and fascinating career. A Washington, Indiana, newspaper's account of his death said he had been a farmer, goat raiser and newspaper editor. One highlight was that in World War I he raised 700 acres of corn which he husked by hand.
Hackler was one of Indiana's first rural free delivery (RFD) mail carriers, being also the first president of the seventh district of the Indiana Rural Letter Carriers Association.
Before going to the Masonic home he had lived 17 years in Plainville where he made a reputation as a magician and novelty shop owner.
His devout interest in Methodism went back to the old Tolberts Chapel near Epsom, in which church circuit riders used to preach. At the time of his death he had been for many years a member of the Plainville Methodist Church.
He belonged to the Plainville Masonic Lodge; to the three York Rite bodies in Washington, Daviess County seat, and to Hadi Shrine Temple, Evansville. Fellow members of the Plainville Masonic Lodge had charge of the Masonic funeral at the Poindexter Chapel in Washington, Indiana on Saturday, May 25, 1963.

I am hoping to find someone that can help me locate the death/burial of
Matilda Catherine Burk(e)s Dyer who was born about 1841.
She married James H. Dyer in 1859 in Greene Co., IN. He died 24 Sept 1887
in Daviess Co., IN.
I can not locate her on the 1900 census and wonder if she remarried after
James' death.
Is anyone familiar with this family?
Hope to hear from someone.

Mike,
According to Mary Wagner of Fern Creek, KY, who researched my branch of
the Burch family, George Alexious BURCH, was the child of Edward Burch II
and wife, Ann Spink(s), who also had children:
Samuel Lewis Burch (my line). and wife Dorothea Brown;
Eleanor Burch who married Nicholas Mudd;
Aletha Burch - never married;
Edward H. Burch and wife Sally Gilbert.
As to the lineage of the above:
Oliver Burch, 1646-1729 and Barbary Tennison;
Justinian Burch, d. bef. 1760 and Susanna Davis;
Edward Burch I, d. 1761 and Anastatia (Jenkins);
*Edward Burch II, and Ann Spink, b. 1762;
Samuel Lewis Burch, b. 1782 (my line), and Dorothea Brown Burch, sold
their lands in Bullitt and Nelson Co., KY in Oct. of 1835, and were in TX
by Jan. of 1836.
*I have also noticed that some descendants, show that there was a Walter
Burch, in this family, but, I've not found that a Walter, is in this
particular family.

Karen....did you try the Martin County Health Department in Shoals for Homer
Vest's death record? They had one of my Vests that the State did not have.
Martin County's personnel are very friendly to work with, and their death
record does show burial location.
Homer may be distantly related to my grandmother Effie Vest who is in an
unmarked and unknown location (per the cemetery personnel) at Walnut Grove
Cemetery in Greene County. She is buried with her brother and parents so we have
a good idea of her location as there are many Vests buried in one general
area of the cemetery.
However, I think the Walnut Grove Vests are all descendants of George
Washington Vest, for whom Homer is not a direct descendant. Effie died at a young
age and before my father's second birthday so I have been unable to locate
much information for her (he was raised by his paternal aunt).
Fern Dree Lankford is a niece to my ggrandmother Sarah Lankford. Wish my
father were still here as he could tell us where Homer might be. Fern's
brother Forrest and my father were friends throughout their lives. As such, I feel
Homer is next to Fern as they had several children and many, many, many
grandkids. Another research area is to contact the Washington Herald newspaper
as this corporation archives their old obituaries. Most Lankfords were
Baptists so the local Baptist Church in Burns City, Shoals, or Loogootee might be
able to help with Homer (all in Martin County). I'm not sure if the Odon
Journal (in Daviess County) would have obituary archives, and I don't know if
Loogootee has/had a newspaper.
