Looking for any information on a George Starr and Jacob Smith. Starr married Cinderella Griffin 14 Jan 1835 in Daviess County. Two years later in 1837 Cinderella married Jacob Smith also in Daviess County. Jacob and Cinderella had two children, Mary b. 1841 and William b. 1843. Cinderella remairred again in 1847. I have no other information on Starr or Smith. Would like to find any family members, probate, divorce, or burial records for either George Starr and Jacob Smith. Would there have been a newspaper that might have articles regarding either George Starr or Jacob Smith? Any ideas where to look for information on these two men? Thanks for any and all help.

Tonight I received this website from anothhe researcher. You can find where
veterans are buried. I searched the three Alford brothers and came up with
these two. (I do think that the address is incorrect for the Alfordsville
Cemetery since it is in Daviess Co.)
Looks like a website worth bookmarking.

There is a wonderful book entitled The Alford Brother, "We Must All Dye

I think Harry's first wife was Carrie Mae Parker. They married 26 Nov 1914 in Daviess County. I found two birth records with her name listed. One was for son Harold born 14 May 1918 and the other was for son James B born 28 Jun 1917. The 1930 Census for Daviess County lists Harry born about 1893, Carrie (or Carry) Mae born about 1902, children: Mary S, Harry A and Curtis? C. The birth record for "Harold" probably should have been for Harry Jr based on the census age but I am not sure what happened to James B. but believe he must have died prior to the 1920 census since he wasn't living with them. Do these names look familiar?
In the 1920 Census this Harry Healy Family was listed next to John T. Healy's family.
I found the marriage record for John T. Healy and Mary C. Coleman, m. 22 Nov 1892 in Daviess County. I looked at birth records and found some but they couldn't seem to figure out her name. One she was listed as Cecelia Coleman, another Cavil, another Cevilla and another Sylvia. I am not sure whether her first name was Mary or if that was her middle name.
I tried looking for John Coleman's family in the 1880 Census. There was one that looked like it matched up with the 1900 census information for him (when he was living with John T. Healy's family). Daviess County Barr Twp. Dwelling 267 Family 273 page 32 taken 24 Jun 1880.

The Mary S may be your Camilla Coleman (or whatever her real name was) The age is about right. It may be that she just preferred to go by her middle name because I think it is unusual that there would be two daughters called Mary.

Susan,
I agree with your information that Hugh descends from Samuel Healy based on the information I found on Healy Census Records also. It is always possible that Patrick Healy is related somehow to Samuel though. However without trying to trace them backwards to when they came to America it will be hard to figure out. I am not a descendent of the Healy's but was interested because of the connection to the Farrell family.
My information is not online but here is the obituary for Hugh Healy's wife. For a while I wasn't sure if Margaret was a daughter of James Levin Brown and Sarah Ellen Farrell until I found this. I suspected she was but hadn't proven it.
MARGARET HEALY
Margaret E. Healy, 96, formerly of 300 E. Hefron St., died at 4:30 a.m. Thursday at the Prairie Village Living Center. She had been in failing health for several years. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the St. SimonÕs Church. Interment will be at the St. JohnÕs Cemetery with Fr. David Martin officiating. Visitation will be at the Ed Lee Mortuary from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. A Christian wake service will be at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. Ladies Auxiliary Knights of St. John will conduct a memorial service at 4 p.m. Sunday.
She was born on Sept. 23, 1903, in Martin County, to James L. and Sarah E. (Farrell) Brown. They preceded her in death. She married Hugh Healy on Nov. 19, 1924 and he preceded her in death on July 31, 1988.
Healy, a 1923 Barr-Reeve High School graduate, was a homemaker and St. Simons Church member. She was also a Ladies Auxiliary Knights of St. John member, 40-year community member and had attended Martin and Daviess county schools. Surviving are: three sons, James Robert Healy, Washington; John Healy, Montgomery and Joe Healy, Vincennes; three daughters, Maggie Craney, Montgomery; Betty Henline, Rockville, Ind. and Mary Jo Miller, Lafayette, Ind.; 24 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. She was also preceded in death by: two sons, Donald and Leo; four sisters, Mary Ehrhardt, Levada Harris, Susan Gueguen and Odetta McDonald and a brother, Dexter Brown.
(Jan. 13, 2000)
I remember one of my great Aunts talking about the Browns, Harris' and McDonalds. She remembed Dexter Brown. She also mentioned Mary Ehrhardt's name once but couldn't remember exactly where the name fit in to the family.
Samuel Healy married Isabelle/Isabella Gibson 31 Jan 1844 in Daviess County. Samuel Healy died 21 Apr 1857 and is buried in the St. Peters Cemeter. Isabelle/a is not there. I suspect she remarried to a Thomas Maley in 1859 but not sure as I can't find them in later census records. At this time, I do not know if Samuel's first wife came to Indiana or not. She may have died in Kentucky.
I do have a few cemetery records for some of the older Healy's.
John (I believe the son of Samuel) 1837-Nov 10, 1921 buried in St Michaels.
John's wife Mary Ann 1829 - Mar 22, 1922 St. Michaels
James (I believe the son of John and Mary) 1862 Feb 20 1943 St. Michaels
James wife Catherine E. Nov 10, 1860 Feb 21 1932 St Michaels
Simon (I believe the son of John) Sep 7, 1864 Oct 29, 1911 St Michaels
Annie (wife of Simon) Jul 8, 1868 Nov 20 1897 St Michaels
Bridget Lundergan (I believe thedaughter of Samuel) Jan 14, 1840 Mar 17 1930 St Michaels
Michael Lundergan died. Mar 31 1888 St Michaels
I am not sure where Hugh Healy is buried but he may be buried in the St. John's cemetery since that is where Margaret apparently was based on the obituary information.

Well ok that does seem like it is correct. I fished out an old photo of Uncle Harry and his wife Hazel Marie Chadd had written "Patt" (? why two t's?) in Foxes' Drug Store in 1950. I remember him as I used to go by his Barber Shop and sell him magazines for a WHS band fund raiser. They lived on Apraw Road and we used to pick cherries from their tree. He definately looks Irish. Added note The Fox boy was my Junior Prom date and just saw he and wife at class reunion in Sept.

Hope I can figure out what I've done to Family Tree Maker.

Hi again
I think we are talking about the same person.
I found Harry A age 6 listed with John T. Haley, wife Mary C, sisters Catherine H and Lorance B. Father in Law John Coleman born 1846 born in KY was living with them.
In the 1910 census it looked like Mary C was listed as Cidila M but maybe that was actually Camillia. The copy I was looking at wasn't that great. Siblings looked like : Marrie , Katie H, Bernard L, Maggie, Mary, Thomas J, and Dorothy A.

Hi Kathy,
Using the census records and IGI, I also traced a relative's line back to Samuel Healy, born about 1810 in Ireland. I research the Dailys of the Washington and Montgomery areas of Daviess County, and there are quite a few marriages between Daily and Healy. Since this is not my direct line, I have not researched further back on the Healys. If you wish to see my information, it is posted on Rootsweb's WorldConnect at
http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=cullivan01&id=I2641
This line follows from his unknown first wife, which I see is also where your Hugh descends from. I received a family tree written by Margaret Larkin in about 1975, which included Hugh's info. Is your info online? It would be nice to find out what Hugh's wife's maiden name was, and where everyone is buried.
This 1975 history mentions another Healy connection: "I find that Michael Foley married Isadora McCarthy, born in Co. Cork, Ireland, daughter of Dennis and [Margaret] Healy McCarthy and in 1886 a farm registered to a M. Foley was just north of Peter Dailey's some distance. The McCarthy's were first settled at Frankfort, Ky. but came to St. Mary's parish, Barr Twp., Daviess Co. about 1841." My research shows that Isadora(h) was actually born in Kentucky, but this little blurb shows a County Cork connection for this Margaret Healy. (Michael Foley was the brother of Peter Dail(e)y's wife, Catherine.) Later in the narrative, "Thomas Daily married Margaret McCarthy on Sept. 2, 1862 and she was the daughter of aforementioned (See Foley) Dennis and Margaret Healy McCarthy, natives of Co. Cork and the city of Cork, Ireland."
The author of this narrative thought, however, that the John Healey who married Mary Ann Daily was possibly "the son of Patrick R. and Ella Sullivan Healey, natives of Co. Cork, Ireland, and had first settled in Scott Co., Ky. but came to the St. Mary's Barr Twp area in 1852" but I believe I disproved that. The author never mentioned Samuel Healy.
This is the narrative on John Healy: "John Healy and Mary Ann lived north of the St. Michael's church, but may have lived at some time nearer to St. Mary's. They were married on July 31, 1861."
And more:
"Mary Ann Daily and John Healy lived all of their lives at St. Michael's and they probably lived to be the oldest married couple of these early days. They were married 60 years when John died in 1921 and Mary Ann died in 1922. She was bitten by a rat and died of Infection. Their children were Catherine Healy, married a Morris; James m. Kate Morgan, two of their children are Agnes m. Ralph Morland, and Hugh m. Margaret. The other children were John, Bridget and Simon. Simon (1864-1911) m. Anne ____ (1858-1897) and were married in 1894 and she died three years later. They and his parents were buried at St. Michael's cemetery. Ruth Auberry is a descendant of the Morris marriage." My research shows where Margaret got quite a few things wrong, but her narrative was a great clue for me. James had two wives, and the Agnes listed was actually the daughter of Mary A. Burris.
My husband is a descendant of Mary Ann's brother John Daily.

Hi.
I am not sure if your Harry Healy was related to the line I was researching or not.
If I have my information right, Hugh Healy was a son of James Healy. James was the son of John Healy. John was a son of a Samuel Healy. Samuel Healy was born about 1810 in Ireland. Samuel Healy apparently spent some time in Ohio and then KY before coming to Indiana. At least one child was born in Ohio and one in Ky.
I think your Harry Healy was a son of John T. and Mary Healy. I believe John T. Healy was born in 1870 and I believe he was a grandson of a Patrick and Ellen Healy. I think he is the grandson John T. listed living with Ellen Healy's family in 1880 although I am not sure at this point who John T.'s father was. Several grandchildren were living listed living with her and two of her sons Morris and Jerome? In 1870, at least two of the children listed with Patrick and Ellen were listed as grandchildren in the 1880 census: Ellen age 10 and George P. age 1. I am not sure who the parents were for all of these grandchildren; Patrick and Ellen at least had the following children: Mary, Dennis, Joanna, Patrick (all born in Ireland), John, Morris, James, Daniel (all born in KY), Michael, Jeremiah (this might be Jerome), and Serina (not sure if she was a child or possibly wife of a son). Michael, Jeremiah, and Serina were born in IN.
Based on all the census records having John T. Healy's father as being born in Kentucky then his father had to be either John, Morris, James or Daniel. In the 1880, census both Morris and Jarome (or Jerimiah) were living with thier Mother along with all those grandchildren. I am not sure what happened to John, James, and Daniel.
Patrick was born about 1800 in Ireland and Ellen born about 1806-1810 in Ireland. Based on census records they were married in Ireland and had children in Ireland, Ky and Indiana. I am not sure if they spent anytime in Ohio.
I do not know if the two families connect or not. It seems that at least part of both families belonged to St Michaels and St. Peter's churches in Daviess County. So, they may have at least known of each other. I do not have access to thier baptism, marriage or cemetery information so I can't check to see who the parents of the Healys were.
Your Harry Healy is buried in the St Michaels cemetery and the John T. Healy who I think was his father is buried in St. Peters. You could possibly try to find out if there are baptism records available for John T (b. 1870) and Harry at St. Peter or St. Michaels. They should give names of parents. I know when I looked at St. John's records they did. There are quite a few Healys buried in St Peters and St Michaels Cemeteries but I did not find all of them there.
PS. If you want to research this family you need to look for the name Haley also. In several census records, etc I have found that as the version of the Healy name.
