Actually, I only have a bio on John F., which I got from
"History of Knox and Daviess County Indiana, Goodspeed Publishing;Chicago; 1886, Pages: 896-897"
I would love to have the bio on Joseph D. - who was my great-grandfather.
Do you have those pages? Would it be too much to ask for a copy?
Thank you so much for your help!

It's a long shot but you could try looking in some of the early newspapers of Daviess Co. Sometimes deaths are mentioned, especially if it was a young person or a person that died under unusual circumstances.

Helen,
This is the Old Bunkum Church, now called something else. It is at the intersection of 1400 N and, I think, 1100 (or 1000) East about a mile east out of Odon on Highway 58 running east-west. If you take 57 south and turn off on 58 going west, it's about a mile. (58 goes west all the way to Washington.) Anyway, you go around a wide curve and there is the sign for the church. Turn north and it is a mile up to 1400. Turn left at that intersection, go up a little gravelly lane, and there is the church, and the cemetary up on a little hill. My daughter and I were just there last summer. My great-grandfather and his brother are buried there. This is one of those isolated, sweet, old-fashioned places you have to really hunt for, but it is a peaceful spot and very soulful. It's been years since I did my research, but my Cunninghams lived all along that north/south mile from 58 to 1400. They owned the land the church is on, a Goolman Cunningham. My great, great, great
grandfather owned 160 acres around that intersection, and clear south, and behind on the next road east. One time I went into the church, all by myself, and just sat there awhile. I love that spot, I love that area, I love Davies County. Sounds silly, I guess, but I can feel the spirit of my ancestors there. One branch still owns a place near Elnora. As I said, it's been awhile since I did my research down there, so I hope all my recollections about numbers are correct. I just told my daughter where to drive. My great-grandfather has one of those tree-trunk thing-a-ma-jigs on it. You can get almost any info you want at the courthouse in Washington, especially probate and real-estate records. I got a lot of info at the State Geneology Section in the Indiana government building in Indy. Also, the Odon Journal was a big help to me. You know, they are planning, someday, to run that 69 Highway extension right through Davies County. Residents are trying to fight it.
Geneology can get to be an obsession, can't it? I finally had to stop spending my life down there and get back to the real world. Good Luck.

Does anyone have a suggestion about finding information about my relative, Henry D. Cobbs, who died in Daviess Co in 1852 at the age of 39? I realize there wouldn't be any death records, but thought someone may have a different idea than what I have tried. They lived in a rural area, so that is tough also. They lived near Elnora.
Thanks.
