I placed the first bid in case no one sees this message in time and turns out to be related or is interested in it for a historical society donation. I just noticed the auction, otherwise I would have mentioned it earlier.
Any information you have on Rev. John McElroy would be appreciated. My
great grandmother was Nancy McElroy Bratton (Brattain) Clayton. She was
born 18 Feb 1839 in Daviess County, Indiana. I would like to know if there
is any relationship. Thank you.

Working his way up from the position of substitute clerk, since 1921 he has occupied the position of postmaster, in which capacity he has been able to elevate standards and bring about added efficiency that have placed him high in the estimation and confidence of the people of this flourishing and prosperous Indiana community. Mr. McGehee was born at Washington, Indiana, October 27, 1881, and is a son of Jesse F. and Josephine (Allen) McGehee. The family is an old and honored one in the Hoosier State, and his grandfather, Richard McGehee, enlisted from this state for service in the Union army during the war between the states and met a soldier’s death on the battlefield while serving with a regiment o!
f Indiana volunteer infantry. Jesse F. McGehee was born in Daviess County, Indiana, where he was educated in the public schools and reared in an agricultural surrounding. He was forced to go to work at an early age because of the death of his father, and his first work was that of the farm. In his later years he became a property owner on his own account. His death occurred in October, 1916. In the early nineties he was in the mercantile business at Washington and for many years a concrete building contractor. He married Josephine Allen, a native of Daviess County, and they became the parents of the following children: Edward, deceased; Jesse Frank; Charles R.; Lucy, the wife of Marion Woody; Hugh; Lottie, the wife of Morton Horrall; and Alex, deceased. Jesse Frank McGehee attended the public schools of Washington, and remained under the parental roof, assisting his father in his merchandising operations, until a few years after the attainment of his majority. He then sec!
ured employment as clerk in a store at Washington, which he retained u
ntil 1905, when he was appointed substitute clerk in the post office at Washington. Since 1927 Mr. McGehee has been a director of the Peoples National Bank & Trust Company. As before noted, he has shown himself a capable and energetic official and one who well merits the confidence in which he is held.
