I have no idea why the migration.
We have many families including Kinnaman and Winklepleck from the Coshocton Co
and Tuscarawas Co OH area to both Greene and Daviess Cos IN.
Some others of our direct lines are:
Fesler, Heshelman, Taylor, McWherter, Freed, and many others.
That area of Ohio is hilly, especially Coshocton Co, and so perhaps not as good
farm land as Daviess and Greene.
These folks seemed to have a wanderlust and perhaps Ohio was getting
too "crowded" for them and the children were always searching for cheaper,
better land.

"AGED PHYSICIAN DIES AT ELNORA. DR. M. P. TOLLIVER, FORMER CORONER, WAS SEVENTY-EIGHT YEARS OF AGE.
Dr. M. P. TOLLIVER, aged resident of Elnora, died at the home of his son Dr. H. C. TOLLIVER Tuesday night. Dr. TOLLIVER was past seventy-eight years of age and had practiced medicine in and about Elnora for the last twenty years. Besides being a good physician, he was a most active and useful citizen. At one time he was elected to the office of county coroner on the democratic ticket and served one term. Due to ill health the last few years of his life were spent in retirement.
Dr. TOLLIVER was born in Lawrence county near Mitchell January 3, 1848. He came to Daviess county about forty-two years ago (about 1884) making his home in Elnora where he served the community as a physician for over a score of years. The last year of his life was spent at the home of his son.
He is survived by four sons and one daughter: Dr. H. C. TOLLIVER of Elnora, Dr. Will TOLLIVER of Evansville; R. T. TOLLIVER of Odon, Joseph TOLLIVER whose home is in Canada, and Mrs. Ruth CARROLL of New York City.
Harry Arthur TOLLIVER who died a few weeks ago from an infected foot received in basketball was a grandson of Dr. TOLLIVER.
The funeral services were held Thursday at two o'clock at the home of his son, Dr. H. C. TOLLIVER in Elnora."

I visited the Carnegie Library, court house, and health department in
Washington last August, and agree with Nancy. They were very helpful
in all places.
I also visited St. Peter's Catholic Church in Montgomery and the
secretary there was very helpful. I felt a bit guilty at taking up
so much of her time that morning, so I made a small donation toward
their fund for refurbishing their stained glass windows. It was the
least I could do.

Robert,
I have a Purcell Family of Daviess Co IN genealogy outline which lists a Margaret Goodwin who married a Floyd Purcell sometime in the 30s. Floyd was the grandson of Nelson Purcell of Cumback. Two sources you might try are: Lucille Smith Purcell of Cumback IN who is married to Kenneth Purcell, the son of Floyd and Margaret, and who is into genealogy. A snail mail letter via just Cumback should get to her. Another source worth tapping might be Bill Goodwin, 708 State Hwy 257, Washington IN 47501. He is NOT into genealogy but knows everyone in the area.
I see that you are researching Coen and Coens. Are you related to John Crawford Coan, Isaac L. or Andrew or Petersburg, Pike Co IN? If so, we are distant cousins. John Crawford Coen was my second great grandfather. I have his Civil war service and pension records if you are interested. I'm trying to locate his wife's, Mary Almira Duncan's, family. Ring any bells?
Hope this helps.

The Odon Journal, Odon, Indiana, February 28, 1919, page 1:
"INFLUENZA RAVAGES RAGLESVILLE COMMUNITY. OVER A HUNDRED CASES REPORTED IN SMALL AREA AND FOUR DEATHS WITHIN LAST FEW DAYS.
The community around Raglesville is suffering from the worst epidemic of influenza it has ever experienced and in a small area about the town over one hundred cases are reported. Four deaths within the last few days are recorded and the disease seems to be prevalent in its worst form, with new cases reported every day.
The first death occurred last Sunday night when Mrs. C. M. SMILEY a respected woman of the community was called.
Angie BLOUGH SMILEY was a daughter of Silas and Sarah J. BLOUGH and was born near this city in 1870 and would have 49 years of age in the coming month of April. She grew to womanhood in this community and when about 20 years of age was converted and became a worker for the Master. She united with the U. B. church at Raglesville where she retained her membership until death. Never pushing herself forward in church work, she preferred to live her religion and was a loving wife and mother, a home lover and home maker.
In Sept. 1887 she was united in marriage to Chas. M. SMILEY and to this union eight children were born all of whom survive. These are Mrs. Clark ROSENBERRY of Champaign, Ill., Mrs. Fred BURCH of Plainville, Mrs. Harvey FAITH of Van Buren township, Thos R. of Bicknell and Everett, Stella, Harold and Neva who are at home. Besides the children she leaves an aged mother, one brother, one half-brother and two grandchildren.
The funeral service was held from the residence Tuesday with Rev. Ernest Roberts of this city in charge and burial was made Tuesday afternoon at Walnut Hill.
Mrs. C. M. RIGGINS was the next victim of the dread disease passing away Monday afternoon about 3:00 o'clock. Mrs. RIGGINS was a daughter of Wesley M. FRENCH and spent practically all her life in the community near her home. She was about 47 years of age and was loved and respected by all who knew her. When about 25 years of age she was united in marriage to C. M. RIGGINS and to this union nine children were born of whom six survive. These are Dennis, Golda, Forest, Roy, Eugene and Glen. Besides the children she also leaves a father and one brother.
The funeral service was held at the cemetery Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock. Burial was made at Raglesville.
Late Monday afternoon Mrs. Edmon STUFFLE succumbed to the disease. She had been ill but a short time and hopes for her recovery were entertained but complications arose which cost her life. On Thursday of last week Mrs. STUFFLE gave birth to a child and her condition was such that she could not successfully resist the disease.
She was the daughter of W. A. JACOBS of Coshocton, Ohio who was with her when she was called by death. She would have been thirty one years of age in May and was loved and respected throughout the whole community.
In May 1908 she was united in marriage to Edmon STUFFLE and to this union six children have been born four of whom survive. These are Ross, Roy, Euford and Mary. Besides the children and her husband she leaves two brothers and one sister all of whom reside in Ohio. The funeral service was held Wednesday afternoon with Rev. John Settle in charge and burial was made at the Raglesville cemetery. Mrs. STUFFLE was a member of the Methodist church and a conscientious Christian woman faithful to her duties and her belief.
The latest death was that of Roy DANT who returned from Kansas City last Saturday. He was suffering with the disease when he arrived and passed away at the home of his parents Mr. and Mrs. Frank DANT who reside near Raglesville. His death came early Wednesday morning after a short but severe illness. He was twenty two years of age and was respected and admired by many friends. He is survived by the father, mother, five brothers and one sister. The funeral arrangements have not been completed as we go to press."
