"PIONEER CITIZEN DIES.
JOSEPH M. BOYD SUCCUMBS SUNDAY.
Joseph M. BOYD, pioneer citizen well known and highly respected in this county passed away at his home on South Spring street last Sunday his death being due to general debility.
Joseph M. BOYD was the oldest son of Robert and Jane BOYD and was born in Tuscarawas county, Ohio, September 21, 1834 and was past 88 years of age at the time of his death.
His earliest schooling was received from his father who was a teacher. At the age of six years he was left an orphan. In the year 1847 he came to Indiana with his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. John McGONAGLE who settled near Good Hope Church.
The trip to this state was made in wagons and the trail lay through Indianapolis. Here he saw the second train that passed through what is now the capitol city. Odon was then known as Clarksburg and consisting of three houses.
On November 26th, 1854 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Ann FRY. About a year later this union was broken when the wife was called to the Great Beyond. On Dec. 20th, 1857 he was again married to Louisa LONG, the ceremony being performed by Rev. T. A. Long, a pioneer Methodist minister.
To this union eight children were born of whom five survive. These are Mrs. Mary A. MUMAW of this city, John A. BOYD of Elnora, Mrs. Rose JOHNSON of North Terre Haute, Mrs Midia INMAN of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Thos. H. BOYD of Danville, Illinois. One grandchild, Miss Opha SLINKARD was taken into the home of Mr. BOYD and reared as a member of the family when her mother passed away in 1887.
Among other surviving relatives are nineteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and a half sister and a half brother.
Mr. BOYD was a farmer and lived on his farm near Elnora for fifty years retiring from the farm and moving to Odon in 1907.
As a citizen he was public spirited and was always interested in the welfare and development of his community. He was active in promoting schools, securing good roads and drainage and lived to see the community which he had chosen develop from the primitive to the modern. He was trustee of Elmore township for 12 years and served 8 years as county commissioner.
He was a charter member of the Pleasant Hill U. B. Church which was organized in 1855. Later when the church at Mud Pike was organized he became a charter member with that body, having located on his farm in that neighborhood. He became a member of the first board of trustees of that church and remained in that official relation until death.
He was an ardent church worker in many capacities and by wide reading and close application obtained in a great measure the higher education that through force of circumstance had been denied him in his youth. Respected and admired his demise is mourned by a host of people who were proud to call him friend.
The funeral service was held from the U. B. Church in this city Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock with Rev. Snyder in charge. Burial was made at Ketcham Cemetery."

COMMUNITY'S OLDEST RESIDENT CALLED.
Mary Jane MYERS, probably the oldest resident of this community passed away at the home on Grove street in this city last Tuesday, her death being caused by general debility. She had been in very poor health for a number of years and her death was not unexpected.
Mary Jane WARD was born in this county near Cornettsville Jan. 19, 1831 and was past 92 years of age at the time of her death. She grew to womanhood in the community in which she was born and on October 31, 1850 was united in marriage to Jacob T. MYERS. To this union seven children were born of whom three survive. These are Louis MYERS of Lansdale, Oklahoma, W. B. MYERS of Bicknell and Mrs. Reason BENNETT of this city.
She also leaves one sister, Mrs. Lizzie SLINKARD of Indianapolis and a number of grandchildren.
She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church having united with that body when a little girl. Her faith never wavered and she came to the end of the journey with the consciousness that she had fought a good fight - had kept the faith.
The funeral service was held from the M. E. church in this city Thursday morning at 10:00 o'clock with Rev. P. S. May of Indianapolis in charge. Burial was made in the cemetery at Cornettsville."

I need a death lookup and obit for my GG Grandparents. John B. Scott was born 1811 Kentucky. Mary Hannah-Scott 1811 Pennsylvania. They married 10-4-1838 in Dearborn County, Indiana. They are listed in 1850 Census in Ohio County, IN and 1860 Census in Harrison Twp., Daviess County, IN. John B. Scott is not listed in 1880 Census. Mary Hannah-Scott is listed living with daughter, Harriet Scott-Edwards and son-in-law, John Edwards in 1880 Census for Daviess County, IN.
So, this tells me my John B. Scott died between 1860-1880. Mary Hannah-Scott died sometime after 1880. I am trying to find the exact dates for both. They both should be buried at Mt. Zion/High Rock Cemetery in Daviess County, IN.
Does anyone know, if there is a 1870 Census for Daviess County, IN? If so, could you look up family for me and send me a copy?
Below, is what I have found on them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am at a dead-end. I have also, been trying to find there Parents, and Siblings. I am at a stand still. Thank you for any and all help.

Dear Joe and Others,
I just made this response to a request from another research list. As
it is also relevant to the early history of Daviess County IN, I thought
I would share it with you. Perhaps it is useful.
Here is something else to think about. A little known but significant
resource is the personal collection Father Edmond J. Schmitt. Father
Schmitt, a parish priest in Southern Indiana, had a keen interest in
history. During the course of his short lifetime he compiled a
remarkable collection ranging from the late 1700's to the early 1900's.
Although much of his collection pertains to the foundations of the
Catholic Church in Indiana, it also contains a lot of work about the
History of the American Catholic Church in general, as well as
specificially to the Early American Catholic Church in Kentucky.
Father Schmitt's vast collection is in the Archives of Notre Dame and
remains virtually untapped. I am aware of it only because he is a
relative of mine. I hope this information will be helpful in some way.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth McIvor
