Surname: Kirby, Ross, Baxter, Humphreys
-------------------------
Am looking for the Kirby family that moved to Daviess County in the 1850s.
My grandmother, Leota Evelyn Kirby was born in Daviess County about 1862.
The family consist of Robert Kirby b. 1824; Rachel McCarty Kirby b. 1831;
Mary b. 1850; Laura b. 1852; James H. b. 1855; John b. 1857; Sarah b. 1860;
and Leota. Robert Kirby d. in Daviess County in 1864; following his death
Rachel married Jesse Baxter; in 1869 Rachel sued for a divorce, but it
was not granted and Jesse Baxter and Rachel were living in Green County
in 1870. Next door to Jesse and Rachel in Green County was daughter Mary
and her husband Jasper Humphreys. James, John, and Leota were living with
Rachel's mother, Mary Ross. Would like to know what happened to daughters
Laurel (also called Josephine Parker in the divorce papers) and Sarah.
James or Jim went to Green County, but would like to know what happened
to son John Kirby.
Thanks for any information available about this family.

Below is the Samuel H. Scott family information, in which, Larry Scott
found for me. I wanted to share it with others who may be searching the
same line.
I have found in the 1850 Census of Ohio County, Indiana, that the parents
of your Samuel H. Scott are John B. Scott (born 1811 in Kentucky) and Mary
(Maiden name Unknown). Mary was born in 1814 in Pennsylvania.
Their children according to the 1850 census were: Francis M. Scott (male
born 1840 in Indiana), Harriet Scott (born 1841 in Indiana), your Samuel
H. Scott (born 1843 in Indiana), John Scott (born 1846 in Indiana), and
Mary E. Scott (born 1849 in Indiana). This family was living in the 2nd
District of Ohio County, Indiana, and are listed on page 348 of that census
in household number 768.
The census was taken on September 13, 1850 and shows the ages as: John
B. (39), Mary (36), Francis M. (10), Harriet (9), Samuel H. (7), John (4!
), and Mary E. (1). John B. was listed as being a Farmer. Francis, Harriet,
and Samuel were listed as being in school.
Anyone out there know the Maiden Name of Mary??????

The subject GEDCOM is no longer missing. This morning I still could not
find it using my name for the search of WorldConnect.RootsWeb.com but when
I searched under the database name that I had used, "Clark-Downey", I found
it just fine. Later searches using my and other names in the datablase
were also successful. I don't know what the problem was. I hope others
on the Daviess Co. forum find it interesting and helpful and hope that
I may get useful feedback in filling out the blanks.

Hi all,
Contrary to what Jim is saying, Obituary Central has always been and will
always be a free site. There is no charge to use its search engines.
If you see anywhere on the page that I charge for people to use my page or
for doing lookups, then let me know where and I'll concede (after a thorough
recount).
