Frederick W SHAFFER was born on 13 Dec 1755 in , Berks Co., PA. He died on 18 Dec 1855 in
, Clinton Co., IN. Charlotte Girven's Notes:
Another possible daughter of Frederick and Barbara is Elizabeth Shaffer, born (I have more
than one birthdate) 12 July 1784, 12 July 1785, and her tombstone states died 27 Jan 1842
at age 56 years, 4 months, 15 days, which would make her born in September of 1785.
Reportedly, she married John Whiteman, full-blood Cherokee, who had converted to Quaker
religion, in Wythe County, Va. about 1804. DAR records show her as the daughter of
Frederick and Barbara -- and also other DAR records show her as the daughter of John
Shaffer and Eve Kelchner. "Families of Washington County and Bristol, Virginia
1776-1996" has two entries in it by descendants of John and Eve Kelcher Shaffer, one
states Elizabeth"Betsy" Shaffer born 1779? (the question mark is their's)
married JohnWhiteman -- and the other entry written by another descendant shows Elizabeth
(Betsy) Shaffer, born about 1783 married to John Whiteman.
Frederick and Barbara had John Shaffer baptized in 1784 in Zion-Pine Church and Catharine
baptized in Zion-Pine Church in 1786 but no baptism for an Elizabeth, if she was their
daughter. In fact, there are no further baptisms for children of Frederick and Barbara in
this Church, leading me to believe that they moved after1786. The purchased land in Wythe
County, Va. from Henry Bird in 1798 and purchased land in Greene County, Tenn. in 1803.
On 7 Sept. 1858, Benjamin A. Shaffer petitioned the Court of ClintonCounty, Indiana, to
allow the sale of a land warrant. It is referred to on thedocument as "Clinton Co
Pleas Court Sept Tenn 1858 Administrator of Frederick Shaver, dec vs. The Heirs of the
decedent". Apparently Benjamin Shaffer was the Administrator. Said petition states
that the heirs ofFrederick Shaffer, deceased, are: John Shaffer, Henry Shaffer, Benjamin
Shaffer, Catharine Hunter, Mary Frazier, Frances Gray, Elizabeth Fry. Also the heirs of
John, Jacob, Andrew Shaffer and Sarah Frazier, deceased sons and daughter of Frederick
Shaffer. This document does not list Elizabeth Shaffer Whiteman, which seems strange, if
she was a daughter, because she lived in Clinton County, Ind.
Parents: Johann Jacob SHAFFER and Margaret.
He was married to Barbara Ann FRY on 25 Dec 1783 in , Shenandoah Co., VA. Children were:
John SHAFFER, Catherine SHAFFER, Sarah SHAFFER, Joseph SHAFFER, Mary Magdalene SHAFFER,
Frances Sina SHAFFER, Jacob SHAFFER, Andrew SHAFFER, Elizabeth SHAFFER, Henry Franklin
SHAFFER, Benjamin A. SHAFFER, Andrew SHAFFER.

Have these notes for Elizabeth: According to a letter dated Mar.3 1877 she died at the
home of her son: Frederick W. Fry, sometime during December of 1876 or
early 1877. Frederick lived near Geetingsville, Clinton Co.Ind.
Reportedly, she was buried in the Gray Cemetery -- no stone.
