Subject: [Clinton Co IN] Brick Shanty
Hi all,
As mentioned by someone before, you won't find the Brick Shanty standing
today. It is the vacant, paved lot on Washington St, as described
previously.
My grandfather Philip Heavilon owned the Shanty in the late 1940s/early
1950s. He began working there in 1940, when it was owned by Sam Boots, (and
where he met my grandmother!) and he continued working there until he was
drafted and again afterwards, at which point he purchased the Shanty from
Sam Boots and ran it himself. Not too long after this he got talked into
selling it and opening up a butcher shop-which you may or may not recall:
the Main Meat Market, on Main St, just off the square. I don't know who the
Shanty was sold to or when the building came down, but it was torn down a
long time ago.
