Hello, I am researching a family line to which I've hit a dead end.
David R. Shirkie was born 26 Feb 1892 in Clinton, Indiana. I know that he married Auline
Reno in 1913 in Illinois and had three children: David E. Shirkie (Reno) 1915, Naomi R.
Shirkie 1916, and Austin Rex Shirkie 1917. I saw the WWI Enlistment Registration in 1916
showing his name spelled SHIRKEY. I know that he and Auline moved to Asheville, NC in
1930 but then separated. What happened to him after that, I don't know. But I do
know that he died in Texas in 1948.
In the various census I saw of him and his family, the spellings varied greatly. And the
Reno/Burdick family has a website that gave additional information to help fill this
information out. But now I've hit a wall.
Here is my question -- according to the 1920 US Census, he is listed as having parents
both born in Scotland. I can find no strong information linking him to any
Shirkey/Shirkie in Indiana in the 1900 US Census. I cannot find information of brother
and/or sisters to trace it that way.
If anyone knows any information on this, I would be greatly appreciative! Thanks.
