Missing a Male Hoosier Ancestor, 1830< born >1846?
If you're missing a male ancestor that was born between
1830 and 1846, it's poosible that he was one of the nearly
460 Civil War soldiers aboard the Sultana steamship that
exploded on the Miss. River, 7 miles N of Memphis, TN on
27 APR 1865.
Indiana was exceeded only by Ohio and Tennessee for having
the most soldiers aboard. While 2 in 3 Hoosiers aboard survived
the ordeal, the rest never made it home.
