Please help me - I am looking for the ancestors of Martin NICKELSON (b.
1821 Wilkes Co., NC). Martin moved his family from Wilkes County, NC to
Wells County IN between 1846 and 1854. It is possible that Martin was
accompanied in the move from NC to IN by Samuel Nickelson and John
Nicholson (possibly his brothers). There is a Samuel, b. June 10, 1820;
d. June 21, 1886, buried in Uniontown Church Cemetery where Martin is
buried. (Cemetery records do not have any info on the families of the
deceased, only the name of the person who purchased the plot.)
Martins father was Samuel NICHOLSON, Jr. (I believe son of Samuel
Nicholson born c. 1730, m. Lydia Dickhouse Aug 9, 1768 Rowan Co, NC -
but no proof to establish link yet - HELP!!). Samuel, Jr was born c.
1780, and died abt. 1835 in Wilkes Co, NC. His brothers were Abel and
William. Wife Dicey and children were named in his will as follows:
Catharine (oldest), Sarah, Lidia, William, Amanda, Losann, Marten,
Samuel and John (Wilkes County, NC Will Book 4, pg. 196). Also, in a
file in the state archives is a paper dated Nov 1835 - "Samuel
Nicholson, deceased...James WOODY and Dicey, former wife of Samuel
Nicholson; Samuel Nicholson died May last leaving nine children (not
named)."(C.R.104.508.24, Wilkes Estates Records, NC Archives).
Martin Nicholson married Elizabeth Nicholson, dau.of Abel Nicholson and
Abigail Phillips(and possibly his 1st cousin).
Any help you can provide will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Terry Donovan
