KIRKLIN Fire this morning destroyed a Clinton County
church that was built in 1910.
Firefighters from four departments worked to put out
the fire at Christ Covenant Orthodox Presbyterian
Church, approximately two miles east of Kirklin, at
Indiana 38 and Clinton County Road 1000 East. Kirklin
is 37 miles southeast of Lafayette.
The fire was reported at 10:19 a.m.
Mark Clements, of the Kirklin Volunteer Fire
Department, said the cause was unknown as of early
this afternoon. A state fire inspector was expected to
help investigate the cause.
"I'm devastated," said Mabel Evans, 92, who lives
nearby and who said she was a long-time member of the
church. "I raised my seven kids at this church."
Firefighters from Johnson Township, Kirklin, Sheridan
and Frankfort helped put out the fire.
More information will be available tomorrow.
