In closing, why not each of you "post" your area of interest
to Clinton Co.,
IN and maybe someone can help you.
Thanks and have a great week, Mary K. George
Good Mornin'
First of all, welcome to you Phil and Mary, and thank you for volunteering
to maintain the web site. Connie did a marvelous job and we'll miss her.
Sure hope that she continues as a list member.
I'm still looking for the parents/siblings of William Perry HOBSON who was
born in Marion County, IN on 20 July 1841, according to the family bible. I
swear that man must have been found in a cabbage patch because I sure can't
find him any parents. It's amazing too because I have so much other info on
him including his Civil War military records and pension info which
includes an official copy of his marriage license. Here's the bits and
pieces of info that I've been able to glean by going over his military
records with a fine-toothed comb.
He lived in Clinton County from about 1853 until he left in 1861 to fight
in the Civil War for the 3 Month sign up period. He then married Mary Jane
CHASTAIN in Aug 1862 in Burget's Corner, Clinton County, and re enlisted 2
days later. He was mustered out in June of 1865. Apparently, his wife lived
in the Zionsville, Boone County area during the time he was gone as his
pension papers gives her mailing address in 1865 as a post office in
Zionsville. In Sept 1878 they were living on a farm in Scircelville,
Clinton Co., per his pension application. He was the first chartered
Commander of the Joe Hooker Post, No. 97, G. A. R. on 28 Aug 1882. William
and his family left IN and moved to Pratt, KS in 1884.
I just found out from the 1880 census that my great-grandfather, William
Perry Hobson, was living in Johnson Township there in Clinton county at the
time of the census. I didn't know this before. Can anyone tell me where
Johnson would have been in relationship to both Burget's Corner and
Scircleville? It also says that his father was born in KY and that his
mother was born in IN. Still don't have any names for his parents yet, but
was wondering if any of you have a male Hobson ancestor that was born in KY
that lived in IN and had a son named William. Yeah...I know that I'm really
reaching here, but I'm getting desperate <VBG>.
