The father of one of my sisters-in-law died after 1933 from the effects of
being gassed in WWI
and this was how his death was always attributed.
Maybe your husband's mother should have used the words "because of" instead
of "in".
I don't recall any war going on in 1937. Of course, if your husband's
father was in Europe
it is possible there were skirmishes leading up to Germany's all-out war

The list of wars I have shows WWI (1914-1918) and WWII (1939-1945) and
the Korean Ware 1950-1953. Anything prior to 1914 was the Philippine
Insurrection (1899-1902), Boxer Rebillion (1900-1901). There doesn't
appear to have been any other wars around that year. Sorry.

OK, I know this is showing my ignorance, but I just found out today that
my
husbands father Joseph COMMONWEALTH was supposed to have died in the
War, now
when did this war end, and where will I be able to check for any
information
on Him? My husband was born in 1937. Two months before he was born the
father
was supposed to have died. When he was young his mother told him that
his
Father died in the WAR.
