Clinton Co. was a place of cheap land in the early 1800's and west of
Frankfort was the beging of the prairie. Reasonably flat land without
trees that had to be felled before you could plow.
John Louks sold his farm in Pickard and moved to Kansas in 1876 and
died there 6 months later at the age of 79. I would loved to find out
why and where in Kansas.

The family of Daniel Shroyer (1781-1865) migrated to Clinton Co.
approx. 1835 from Union Co., Ind.. They had originally settled in
Union Co., Ind. approx.1829. They orginated in Fayette Co., Pa.
Daniel had a daughter Elizabeth (1805-1864) who was married to
Jonathon Rice (1801-1859). The Rice family migrated along with the
Shroyers. Jonathon and Elizabeth stayed in Clinton Co. Some of their
chidren intermarried with the Beard family. Descendents of Jonathon
and Elizabeth are still in Clinton Co.
Another daughter of Daniel's was Sarah she married John Hurless.
Sarah appears to have also stayed in Clinton Co. but have had great
difficulty in determing what becomes of her.
The rest of Daniel's nine children eventually leave Clinton Co. and
migrate to parts of Illinois/Iowa/Missouri.
Also have often wondered what the attraction to Clinton Co. was?
Daniel migrates there as a man in his 50's. Old by the standards of
the day. Have often pondered why at that age he would pack up with
all of his adult children and make a move. ??
Would enjoy hearing from anyone with Rice/Hurless/Shroyer information
or interest.
