I have a CLEAR family that lived in Carroll and Cass
Counties. Might there be a connection here? Samuel
Clear was one of the names.

Hi Cathi,
The Campbells buried in Mount Hope Cemetery are John W. CAMPBELL and his
first wife, Elizabeth MATTIX. John was born 16 October 1818 in Pennsylvania
and died 30 September 1879. Elizabeth was born 28 February 1820 in Ohio
(probably Butler County) and died 16 July 1844. John and Elizabeth were
married 10 February 1842 in Clinton County. Elizabeth was a sister of my
gg-grandfather, Joseph MATTIX. After Elizabeth's death, John married
again - this time to Nancy MATTIX, a first cousin of Elizabeth. Nancy is
buried elsewhere.
I hope this helps you in your research.

Some of my Tatum and Hendrixson families lived in Colfax before and after
1900. I agree that more than Clinton County has to be considered in order
to piece these family puzzles together. Associated families were Camp,
Spivey, Harshman, Moore, Miller, McMullen, and Jacoby. I have a separate
Harshman connection, as well as Pence, two families that I understand lived
in Clinton Co.
William Asbury Tatum and Rachel A/N Hendrixson lived in Boone County,
Tippecanoe County, and White County as well as Clinton. They divorced in
White County, where Rachel remarried Jacob Nulf.
Rachel died in 1882, after her remarriage and after William and his sons
Nathanael and Albert went west to Iowa. Emma stayed with her mother for a
while, but I can't find my great grandmother Eliza Alice in 1880. She
later married Thomas McMullen.
Any family information appreciated.

I'm trying to connect the Merritt families. Some came from Va and some from PA. they live in such close proximity, so surely they are connected by a common ancestor.

ABSOLUTELY! Anything at all that you think might be
useful to anyone, please post it- whatever it is!
People moved around a lot. My Clinton County families
moved back and forth to Montgomery, Tippecanoe, and
Boone Counties and others may have been in other
neighboring counties, Carroll, Howard, Hamilton,
Tipton. If your family lived in Clinton County for one
day then feel free to post the info. Even if your
family NEVER lived in Clinton County but someone had a
sibling or a cousin who lived here feel free to post
that info. You never know what you might come up with.
Also, many Clinton County families came from Ohio or
Virginia or Kentucky, if you find something about
another state that might be useful to someone else on
the list feel free to post that.
