I agree, they have the most wonderful library and the nicest people, who are
very helpful.
Although I didn't grow up there, my Mom and my husbands parents did. Turns
out our families lived near each other in Owen twp. in the 1830' abd 40', they
all came from Butler Co. Ohio.

Hi Patricia,
Here is a brief rundown on my confusing Moore's of Clinton Co. I do not
know if I am looking for one family or two.
In 1874 Almina "Minnie" Allen (the daughter of Elias Taylor Allen and
Sophia (Emmond ) Allen); married Taylor A. Moore in Clinton Co, Indiana.
Taylor Moore is a Saloon Keeper. Taylor A. and Almina (Allen) Moore appear
on the 1880 census in Colfax, Clinton, IN with son James age 3.
Taylor dies in July 1881 and in 1882 Almina Moore marries Geo. F. Moore in
Clinton Co, I'm sure that this is the same Almina who married Taylor Moore
because her marriage record to Geo F. shows her father's name Allen,
mothers Emmons. George F. Moore is the son of Benedict Moore so I think it
is just a coincidence that Almina married another Moore. I haven't found a
death record, but I believe George F. Moore died before 1885 because in
1885 Almina Moore (again the same one) marries Martin Blacker, son of
Catherine and ?, in Clinton Co. The Blacker family appears around Clinton
IN from at least 1860 to 1885.
By 1900 census Martin Blacker has left Clinton Co. and is in Winnebego Co,
IL, with a new wife, Mollie, to whom he has been married one year. I assume
Almina died between 1885 and 1900.
I am nearly certain that Taylor A. and Almina (Allen) Moore's son James
(shown on the 1880 Clinton Co. census) is my great grandfather. I just
haven't been able to find documented proof. My James is James Justus
Moore, born 1877. He had a younger brother named John. I do not know if
this brother was the son of Taylor A. or Geo. F; or Martin Blacker. I just
know he had a brother named John.
I believe Taylor A. Moore's family is this family:
1860 Fairfield Township, Tippicanoe Co, Indiana census:
James, 66, born KY, Farmer
Katharina, 56, KY
Taylor, 22, b. Indiana
John, 18, b. IN
Pollie (or Lollie) E., 21, b. IN
Mattilda, 18, b. IN
Cinda N. 17, b. IN.
Also living with them is an R. J. Daucham (?) female, age 26 and Tyna
Daucham, age 5.
So, Patricia, do you have a connection to either of these Moore families?

I, too, am still alive and noticing that all of the lists that I subscribe to are relatively quiet. Everyone fall projecting apparently.
Is ANYONE out there working on Rice's? Shroyer's? Hurless's? Crawford's? Turner's? Isaac Jones? All early Clinton Co. settlers. There in the early 1830's until the mid 1860's and beyond.
Is Mary George on this list? If so Mary please re-contact me. Computer got sick and dropped all of my e-mails so do not have your address any more and lost all of my received, sent mail etc. and many files. You had sent me some good info. regarding the Clinton Co. Gen. Society but all of my old mail is gone. Just got back up and running.

For some reason Rootsweb sets the default for List Administrators at "no
prepend" (no List name in the subject line). Supposedly (they say) people
don't like it because it lengthens the subject line & makes that only partially
visible to those receiving the e-mail.
Personally, I much prefer to have the prepend - especially these days with all
of the Spam. The List name can be shortened so it does not block the subject
line too much.
My Clinton County names are:
Compton
Carson
Terwilliger
Shirley Webb
shirlwbb(a)ktc.com
I moved some months back and haven't again subscribed to many lists I was on. You are right. I believe all the lists I previously belonged to had the their title in the subject line so you automatically know who it is from.
Hello:
We visited Indiana in May and stopped at the beautiful library in Frankfort. We were very impressed with the amount of genealogy space and the very nice lady who helped us find the right books. In fact, as we traveled through the Midwest we found many new libraries, mostly funded by individuals, not county taxes.
We are always searching for the following names:
DeLong
Wenner
Vetter
Yundt (Jundt or Yount)
Kressel
Luper
I have ancestors who settled in Clinton, Tippecanoe, Carroll, and Putnam counties.
Thanks,

Ora & Jeanne,
I was born in Frankfort and am a descendant of
Ralph GRIFFIN (1808-1892) and his first wife,
Abigail CRANDALL (1809-1875).
In 1850 Ralph and Abigail were in Clinton Co., but by 1856 Ralph and some of
this family had moved to Richland Co., Wisconsin.
"David Griffin came from Indiana [Clinton Co.] in 1855 and entered 182 acres
of land on section 18. He still lives on the same section. His father,
Ralph Griffin, came in 1856 and settled on section 18."

In our family file we have a number of FRY families.
Although not in my direct line,
Elizabeth "Betsy" FRY (1828-1886), daughter of
George Washington FRY (1797-1867) and
Barbara Ann SMELCER (1802-1887)
married second Aft. 08 Jan 1875, my 2nd great grandfather,
Ralph GRIFFIN (1808-1892) as his second wife.
Elizabeth "Betsy" FRY had first married 23 Mar 1848 to
Arad H. SILVER (1812-1874) by whom she had four children.
One of the children was:
Martha A. SILVER (1856-1919) who married in 1880
Samuel GRIFFIN (1840-1914) the fourth son of
Ralph GRIFFIN (1808-1892) and his first wife,
Abigail CRANDALL (1809-1875).
The first son of Ralph GRIFFIN (1808-1892) and his first wife
Abigail (CRANDALL) (1809-1875),
David GRIFFIN (1829-1906) in 1850 married first
Martha Ann SELLERS (1834-1871).
David married second Abt. 1872,
Susannah Matilda FRY (1838-1924), a younger sister of
Elizabeth "Betsy" FRY (1828-1886).
The fifth son of Ralph GRIFFIN (1808-1892) and his first wife
Abigail (CRANDALL) (1809-1875),
William GRIFFIN (1845-1932) in 1880 married second
Amanda Helen FRY (1857-1924) a daughter of
Adam FRY (1824-1900) and his 2nd wife
Margaret SMELCER (1823-1890).
Adam FRY was a son of
George Washington FRY (1797-1867) and
Barbara Ann SMELCER (1802-1887).
John E. FRY, son of James and Charlotte FRY, married 09 Sep 1878
Sarah Martha GRIFFIN (Abt. 1856-?) the daughter of
David GRIFFIN (1829-1906) and his 1st wife
Martha Ann SELLERS (1834-1871).
Re:
> PS -- I have a FRY in the family but back as far as 1792 in Virginia.
> Catherina Wilhelmina Fry.
Do not have her, but in our family file we do have some FRY families with
a linkage to Virginia:
Catharina FRY, b. 1764, daughter of
John FRY (~1750- ~1826) who died in Greene Co., Tennessee, and his first
wife
Wilhelmine Philippina Phebe UNKNOWN who d. bef. 1794 in Shenandoah Co.,
Virginia.
John FRY married second after 1794 in Shenandoah Co., Virginia,
Elizabeth PRIN (1770-1851)
There were 8 children of the second marriage, including
George Washington FRY (1797-1867) who married
Barbara Ann SMELCER (1802-1887).
Re:
> SHAFF
Do not have SHAFF in family file but do have SHAFFER connected to several
FRY and one SELLERS.
The website: "FRY Family VA > TN > IN" by Wally Garchow is online at:
http://www.calweb.com/~wally/darke/w-fry1.htm
Martha A. GRIFFIN, daughter of Ralph GRIFFIN and Abigail CRANDALL married
Charles Christian SELLERS in 13 Aug 1854 in Frankfort, Clinton Co., Indiana.
This is my line, my mother was a SELLERS of Clinton Co..
I have a good deal of information on SELLARS/SELLERS back to the German
immigrant.
My other lines in Clinton Co. are SANDERS, RUSSELL and MOORE.
Hope this helps,
Pat Denning
Covington, Washington
I believe that a reason the lists get slow during this time of year is here
in Indiana it is harvest time and people become busy doing day to day life it
usually picks back up around November of so.
my lines from Clinton Co. are
SPENCER
BOGGS
CARPENTER
CASS
MCCARTY
to name a few
I have never been able to find anything on any of them and after years of
trying have almost given up. I tend to pick it back up the first part of NOV or
after harvest. I know alot of genealogist who tend to take late summer breaks
It will pick up soon.
Hi Everyone,
I too, wonder where all the activity is. My surname for Clinton County, is
Galey.
Thanks,
Colleen Samii (Galey)
