I had been out of town and away from my computer since Nov. 24th. My father
was in critical care and I stayed with him in the hospital. Dad was buried
day before yesterday.
I returned to 440 messages and don't know when I will be able to sort
through all of them. I want all of you to know that I have not deserted the
Clinton County site, or inclinto discussion list.
If you have written to me, please do not think I am ignoring you. I will
eventually catch up on correspondence.
Sincerely,
Connie Rushing

Happy Holidays List,
I am looking for information on my ancestor Samuel Pollett. I have widely
varying birthdates for him but I know he was born in Delaware. He, his
mother Elizabeth Pollett (? maiden name), and his brother Harrison, came
sometime before 1860 to Clinton County, IN where he lived the rest of his
life. Samuel Pollett married Harriet Lavina Scott of Wabash Co. IN on 19
Sep 1872. Samuel had children James G., Effie Mae, John H, Nathan, and
Charles. Samuel died in either late 1884 or early 1885 because his son
Charles was born 9 Apr 1885, and his daughter Ruth (my great aunt)
remembered how her father told her about how his father died shortly before
he was born. However, I have been unable to determine where Samuel died,
because he was last seen in the 1880 census of Clinton Co., but I can't
find him in any of the cemetary indexes of Clinton County. If anyone could
help me find out where he died, and who his father was, I would really
appreciate it. Please email me at mjsevers(a)colby.edu
Thanks,
Matt

Marriage applications did not start until 1882 in Clinton County, anything
earlier is the license itself or if you are real lucky there is a consent to
marry.

Ms. Bohm no longer resides in Frankfort, she is in Florida and I do not have
the address, here at the house. Perhaps someone else on list does.
For those of you that have yet to do any research utilizing the resources of
your local Latter Day Saints (LDS) Family History Centers, I can't say
enough good things about the them (and I'm not even Morman) <G>. There
should be one within driving distance of you I would imagine. Look it up in
your yellow pages under Churches, sign in at the front desk and ask one of
the very friendly and knowledgeable volunteers for assistance.
You can go to: <http://www.genhomepage.com/LDS.html> for more background
info of what's available through the LDS Family History Centers. They are an
INVALUABLE research aid! They have sent missionaries all over the world to
microfilm parish and civil records so that anyone can have access to the
info within the records. I was totally amazed that they were so eager to
have people come benefit from their efforts. You will NEVER EVER feel as
though they are trying to "recruit" you to their church. The cost to order
in copies of microfilm or microfische is minimal and if I remember correctly
the film is kept there available for you to look at it for at least 3 weeks.
Each FHC has its own selection of stuff that is always available to look at
without having to order anything in. It's so hard to explain...but most FHCs
have a introductory video that you can view and there is ALWAYS at least one
knowledgeable person on duty to help you.
I've been doing research there for over 3 years and I never fail to find at
least one piece of usable info each time I go. For instance.....yesterday I
discovered while perusing their CD titled "Family History Catalog" that
there is a LOT of info available on either microfilm or microfische
concerning Clinton County. As I mentioned earlier, microfilm is available
for temporary use by paying a small fee to order it in (usually around $3
per reel), but if you find some info that is available on microfische that
only costs 15 cents per fische and it stays at that FHC permanently. I only
had time to check out a couple of items, but if you figure that your
ancestor married in Clinton Co. during the years of 1830-1844 but you don't
know the name of the person that they married, microfische # 6018603 is of a
39 pg. book that lists the marriage applications during those years. It's
true that it won't tell you anything but the name, but for 15 cents I'd have
to figure that's doing pretty good <G>.
In addition, I saw a "Clinton County, Indiana History and Genealogy"
compiled by Joan C. Bohm on 6 July 1992 that was comprised of 5 fische #
6101022. Perhaps one of your ancestors was mentioned within this
publication, but even if they weren't, for less than $1 you can discover
more about the history of the area. BTW, if you find anything of interest on
that microfische, you might want to contact Ms Bohm to see if she'd
discovered any more info since she published. Her address as of 1992 was
1404 Wilshire Dr, Apt. 36, Frankfort, IN 46041-4202.
So....I hope that I've peaked your interest sufficiently so that you'll
check out this marvelous resource.
Later,

helps, please let me know if it does, so many people have been taking there
