I received this as a subscriber to In-Clay but noticed the Bolin name there
is a small connection to the Stevens surname in the Bolin line and they were
mainly from Clay County. we are looking for a Noah Kane Stevens/Stephens
information. Noah died in Andersonville War Prison in Ga. He was married in
Owen County Indiana and was said to have been born in Fayette County. Can't
find a mother for him as his father Levi Stevens/Stephens married five years
before he did also in Owen County then moved to Clay county and had six
children I think it was. Levi's Son Perry Marion Stevens married a Marr/Murr
widow around 1876 and moved to Ohio. hope you can find what you are looking
for. I loved genealogy then my life changed and right now I don't have the
time to do much research. I became a widow two years ago and My youngest
will be in kindergarten next fall so I might have time to get back into it
again.

Do you have the names of William Boling's siblings? Is he the same William
Boling that was born in Virginia about 1764 and married Mary who was born in
North Carolina about the same time. They appear on the US Census 1850 in
Owen County, IN.
I found Noah, Olive, Pleasant, and Terry living with Samuel and Nancy
Steed in the
1850 US Census. Their last name was "Bowling." By 1860 they had
all changed their names to "Bolin." It is interesting to note that in 1853
when Shubal's marriage is dissolved in Owen County, he has changed his last
name to "Boling." He didn't even show up for the case, Elizabeth was
awarded
support costs ($65).
Shubal had already left Owen County and headed west. He picked up Julia
Ann in
Root, Adams, IN, but they did not get married until they were in
Illinois, 1857. Julia was 13 when she had Margaret, who died in infancy.
Jasper was born just across the state line in Esdaile, WI.
I got an e-mail on just how Shubal died in the wagon accident. A wheel ran
over his
chest and crushed his lungs. It took just 3 hours for him to die.
More stories to pass along to the younger generation.
Appreciate any help you can give me. The CD's from Owen County should
arrive
soon. William's will is on the CD along with newspaper articles from
the same era. I am looking forward to getting the CD's.
Am also passing information to Pierce County Hearld. They pass me
information, too.
Shubal's death certificate did not have the name of his
father, Harbard. But, Isabelle Johnson, daughter of Everett Valentine, said
that Harbard was the name of Shubal's father. She recently died, but what a
source of information. There are copies of marriages, births, divorces, and
deaths that I am trying to get a copy of for our family tree.
Thanks for all the help,
Gene Bolin
