Joseph W. Acree Dies Result of An Infection
Prominent Jackson Township Farmer Meets Untimely Death
Which is Shock to Community
Deceased Man Leaves Splendid Reputation
Was Knightsville, M. E. Sunday School Superintendent and Prominent in Social and Civic
Life
Joseph W. Acree, age 65, well known farmer of Jackson Twp., died at the Union Hospital at
Terre Haute, at 8:55 AM, Sunday as the result of an infection. Mr. Acree was born in
Adair County, KY, May 4, 1869. In 1872 he came to IN with his parents, Mr. & Mrs.
Samuel B. Acree, and located in Harmony, where he resided until his marriage to Levina E.
Johnson in 1892. For the past 29 years he has made his home in Jackson Twp., where he has
been active in church, social and civic affairs. He was a member of the Methodist
Episcopal Church of Knightsville and has served as superintendent of the Sunday School
there. He was president of the Van Buren Twp. Sunday School Association and influence for
moral consciousness and good citizenship in the community. He was a member of the
I.O.O.F. Lodge of Harmony and an active member of the Clay County Historical Society. In
the younger days of the Clay County Farm Bureau he took a prominent part in it's
affairs. At one time he served as district road superintendent. His sudden and untimely
death is a shock to his many friends to whom he had indeared himself and he will be
greatly missed by all who knew him. The deceased is survived by his widow, Levina E. ; 2
sons, Everett J., of Terre Haute; Albert J. of Knightsville, and 1 daughter, Mrs. Robert
C. Faltson of Terre Haute. And there are, also, 5 brothers: James, Edward and Oscar, of
Harmony; John, of Brazil and Frank, of Marion and 3 sisters: Mrs. John Leonhardt and Mrs.
Victoria Altman of Harmony and Mrs. James Green, of Brazil.
The body was brought to Miller and Sons and prepared for burial and will be removed to the
residence southeast of Brazil, Tuesday morning. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM
Wednesday, the Rev. R. B. Kern, pastor of the 1st Methodist Church of Brazil will
officiate. Interment will be announced later.
