As Mary said, NA is for naturalized. There are several columns for
citizenship; for example, in the 1900 census: year of immigration (the year
he arrived), number of years in US, both columns apply only to foreign-born
persons. If a person was born abroad and had taken no steps toward
naturalization, "Al" for alien is used. If a person had declared his
intention and taken out his "first papers", "Pa" is in the column. If
he has
become a full citizen by taking out second or final papers, this is indicated
by "Na" (naturalized); I also found "Nat" which is probably the same
thing.
In 1920, the year of naturalization was asked. In one case I found the term
"Am cit". I also often found "NR", which is not defined in the census
book.
This was mostly for women, so just guessing, it could mean "not required".
