Connie,
We are probably related this way too. My gg-grandfather, Elisha's
brother, Lorenzo Gilbert married Temperance Slack. I believe
Temperance and Abner were born and married by 1850 and so did not show
up with their parents, John Slack and Elizabeth in the 1850 c.
In the 1850 c of Lost Creek twp., Vigo Co., IN Abner Slack is a
laborer on Lorenzo and Temperance's farm. Abner is also in the 1850 c
for Washington Twp., Clay co. married to a Mary & having children,
Elizabeth, Rosy or Roxy, William and Benjamin. There is also a 4 mo.
old, Oswell Carothers listed in the family. It was not that uncommon
for men to work on one farm and live somewhere else. I haven't
checked to see how close the twps. are but they could be right next to
one another.
Abner is listed as 25 with Lorenzo and 36 with his family but this
doesn't concern me too much. I know the ages are different but then in
the 1860 c Abner is a laborer listed with the James Clark family pg.
841, Clay Co., Perry twp and the ages coincide.
This is going to get real confusing trying for figure out how we are
related! I hope the above makes sense.
Pat

Subject: Slack in Clay Co.
Does anyone have any information on a Abner Slack of Clay Co. found
on the
1840 census, Jackson twsp. pg. 331 line 1. His daughter Zilfa
Elizabeth
Slack married my gg.grandfather James W. Gilbert. In 1880, they,
James and
Zilfa were in Taney Co. MO. Thanks for any assistance. Connie
