On the 1850 census is listed: William W Burton, age 54; wife Susan, age
54; Catherine, age 26; Mahala, age 24; Sarah Adeline, age 18; Armena, age
12; and a farm hand. Sarah Adeline married Thomas Benton Van Horn in 1856,
they had a daughter Armena Ann in 1858. Thomas went off to the Civil War in
1862 while Sarah was pregnant (men!) and in 1863 she had Madalene M. Thomas
disappeared from sight (I know where he went), and at that point I lost
Sarah and the girls until 1870. They are listed with her sister, Mahala, in
Adams County, Indiana.
I would like to find out what happened to this family, and I would like to
follow up on the girls. Thomas (the cad) went off to another state and
married another lady, and they ended up being my grgrandparents. Armena and
Madalene are just as much a part of my ancestry as any of Thomas' other
children. Any help appreciated.
