It would surprise me if clay came from a mine, because clay hasn't turned to
rock yet. Clay is a soil type, usually deposited by water, lying on top of
the rock in an area, and is dug out of a pit, either straight down in a flat
area, or out of a hillside or river bank where the terrain is more
interesting.

Do you know if they dug clay in any of those mines? Our g grandfather, Ord
Parker, fell down the shaft of the "Diamond Mine" in January 1869. They
Hydraulic Brick Company had a mine up in that area too. They manufactured
glazed bricks around the turn of the century. They would have needed coal
to
fire their kilns.
