Parker, fell down the shaft of the "Diamond Mine" in January 1869.
They
Hydraulic Brick Company had a mine up in that area too. They
manufactured
glazed bricks around the turn of the century. They would have needed
coal to
fire their kilns.

Mary, I don't know when the deep mining really started around that area.
My GGrandfather on my mother's side, bought a lot from Carbon Block Coal
Company in Carbon around 1870. My GGrandfather Pietro Zambenini, was down
in McAlester OK in 1894 and they had a big explosion that killed over 100
people. Fortunatly he was off sick that day and the ones who survived
found that deep mines were opening around Perth IN and they all high
tailed it up to Perth.
