I am researching an ancestor that was in Decatur Co., Clay Twp., in
1850. I
can't seem to find a "Decatur Co." rootsweb, so I am wondering if anyone
here can tell me where to go to find this ancestor.
William W. BURTON, 54 ; Susan, 54; Catherine, 26; Mahala, 24; Sarah (my
ancestor), 18; Armenia (or Armencia), 12; all born in KY. The oldest was
Adam, 28, who was married to Sarah Ann Dewers, and lived next door.
In 1860, Decatur Co, Greensburgh Twp, I show William 64 (but no wife),
Mahala, 32, and Armenia, 22.
In 1860, Tipton Co., Tipton Twp., I found the son, Adam, 38 and his wife and
children: Sarah, 37; Melinda, 13; Louisa, 11; Melissa, 10; William, 9;
Joseph, 7; Sarah, 5.
In 1870, Decatur Co., Adams Twp., I found Mahala Burton, 43 sharing a house
with her sister, Sarah Burton Van Horn 39, and Sarah's two daughters: Armena
12, and Madalene Van Horn 5.
I am mainly trying to find out what happened to Sarah Burton Van Horn who
had been deserted by her husband, Thomas B. Van Horn in 1862. Sarah, Armena
and Madalene are ancestors of mine, even though my great grandfather, Thomas
Van Horn, left them. This is my black sheep story. Pat at
