Patricia, The line I'm studying is this: John Hofmann - b.1793, Germany. 2 sons:
John Peter 1826-1906 & John with middle initial "B": 1836-1893. Believe
John Peter married Anna Maria "Mary" MEIER and had at least 5 children between
1856-65. The line I'm mainly studying is his brother, John B. who is believed to
have married Anna Margaret SCHERB 1862 at Clay Co, Indiana. I show 12 children of John
B. & Anna Margaret from eldest, Faustinus "Foster", 1863-1951 to youngest
Edward 1887-1956. My son-in-law descends from one of the middle children, Mary Hofmann
DANNER 1875-1927. Descendants that I've spoken to feel their name is spelled
HOFMANN, but as you note there were and are many phonetically equivalent variations.
I'm curious to know if most of those phonetic variations in Clay County in the 1800s
stem from the same group and if so, how do they connect ? - Thanks, Allan Griffith,
